History
Melissa claims that she was born to a wandering pair of Wind Dragons seeking adventure together and that it was only a matter of chance and the direction the winds took them that the time for nesting happened to find them on the Floes. There is no way to be certain if this is true however, as she presently does not keep in contact with any family, having presumably picked up their desire to simply float with the aerial currents. The event which steered her life in its current direction befell her while travelling through the Tangled Wood. There she heard rumours of an ancient castle not built by dragonkind, but now inhabited by a greedy and most tricky wyrm. This mysterious dragon was one of the many capable of taking on a second shape reminiscent of the beastclans and so was comfortable making this strange building his home - and his vault. They said his wealth was so great and his defences so well made that he grew bold and dared would-be thieves to try their talons at taking anything from him. Such a tale did enthral Melissa and she did travel to this nameless Castle to see for herself the truth of the wild stories. She found the structure and she found its lord, who did indeed make a game of allowing strangers a chance to win some of his gold... but none had warned the young drakaina of the trials she would have to succeed in to win this hazardous contest - nor of the height of the stakes. And so fail she did, rather spectacularly at that, and captured within the walls of the fortress was forced to pay the consequence. When finally she was allowed to fly free again, she found herself incapable of forgetting this shameful event. And so she resolved to find others to help her and return once more to even the score with this dragon she now thought of as her nemesis. Over and over the winds carried her back with a fresh team of bold dragons to face the challenges of the Castle. A few times, they managed to win and claim both a hefty sum of gold and a measure of retribution. More times, they failed again, adding fuel to all their motivation. Over time, as she became more familiar with both the castle itself and its master, Melissa´s anger faded and she found she enjoyed more the challenge itself and the anticipation of the result than the fleeting satisfaction of a win - she admitted to herself what she had known for some time then, deep within. It would never be enough. The dark dragon´s game became her game as well, meant to be his adversary and yet, in a way, his accomplice. |
