Every heretic must die, it is the only way justice can be dispensed. The mortal world cannot judge them for their sins, the gods must be the ones…

It had been decades since that warm presence had filled her mind, but its words still rang clear each time she closed her eyes. She had wandered for days in an abandoned ruin, seeking, begging the gods for purpose and meaning, until finally she had collapsed below a chipped mural of some primordial battle. While she slept, she had felt a warm… something join her in her slumber, something that made her feel so secure and so full of wonder at the same time. It whispered to her a new goal, something to save her from her meaningless existence.

Slay the heretics.

It made sense - heretical cultists of the Shadowbinder and Plaguebringer were power-hungry creatures that would enslave or kill the “lesser” clerics in their endless fight for power. She had never questioned her divine task. That is, until this night.

As she holds the small, translucent egg in her hands, feeling the gentle pulse of a heartbeat on her skin, for the first time she gives pause. A tiny eye blinks up at her through the smooth membrane, so innocent and trusting she feels a lump in her throat. Her vision is so blurry through tears she can barely see, but she raises her great blade nonetheless.
