Her mother told her that the stars on her hide were plucked from the sky just for her by the Stormcatcher himself. Her father, whose own scales had undergone a stunning transformation recently claimed to have flown into the heavens and rolled around to scratch an itch on his mighty body and stars stuck to him. Those were nice stories told to a sheltered hatchling as her parents sought a way to get her out of the realm of Lightning, where rumors of an Emperor sighting in their northerly neighbor spurred suspicion of Imperials. She was sent out in secret with a single companion, a skilled mercenary, but their journey brought them into a great storm and the mercenary's armor caused him to be struck by lightning. Cassie was alone in the storm. the wind and darkness kept her from finding her southward path and she instead fixated on the only fixed point on the horizon. A beacon. She is often in silent thought about her parents, and the fairy-tales of bringing stars down to wear them. So she has dedicated herself to studying the stars and planets that travel through the sky, to hold on to that memory. Gardens as a hobby. |
