Biography

Being a translator is no easy job, and Terrell knows this best. While most dragons speak common draconian, there are Fae dragons with their strange fin wiggles, Coatls with their humming speech, common baby babble, threatening Beastclan shrieking, pathetic Beastclan wailing, and finally, the annoying adult speak. With so many varieties of languages floating around, it takes most dragon years of patience, a good memory, and nerves of core steel to be able to be a translator. Fortunately, Terrell has all three, and so he's faithfully and patiently served as the clan's translator from the moment he was able to interpret Fae Wriggle. With his legendary calm and expertise, many dragons have taken to asking him for help in negotiating deals. Coatl and Fae dragons in particular enjoy toting the Skydancer around like a large, feathery bag. Nothing like having a small baby dragon translate your angry humming rant to get the point through.

What makes Terrell perfect as a translator, though, isn't just his composure and serious work demeanor. As a Skydancer, he's practically part-Coatl. And with his head feathers, he might as well have Fae fins! These physical traits allow him to understand and translate for the two breeds in a way that no other dragon has ever been able to. Not to mention, Terrell also has the Skydancer ability to sense emotions, so even if he doesn't know what his client is talking about, he can pretty much tell by reading their moods.

Though Terrell is mostly serious when he's working, he has an enthusiastic personality off the clock. During his free time, he enjoys playing with the other hatchlings, usually Adevi and Chrestomanci, as he's one of the few dragons who actually understand the two. Terrell also enjoys following Socks around on her protests, since throwing apples and eggs at others is amazingly cathartic, especially if he'd just spent the last two hours translating an entire rant into Fae Wriggle. During naptimes, Terrell can usually be seen with Lyra, as the two are equally fluffy, and so they each lack the ability to nick each other with the sharp scales some of their denmates possess. Chrestomanci usually joins them as well, but as the Coatl is the cuddle buddy of BlackSlime, they wind up also getting the Bogsneak in the pile, and then Adevi comes along, and so on, until the majority of the hatchlings are gathered together in one big pile and next thing you know, someone's getting stepped on.

Though Terrell usually gets along with his denmates, despite naptime catastrophes, there are a few he can't quite understand. Starfall and her blender are at the top of the list, and then there's Primrose. Terrell doesn't know whether the Ridgeback hates him or likes him or feels indifferent, as she alternates giving him pitying looks, ignoring him, and hitting him in the head with a scroll whenever he uses water magic. That last bit might just be the way Ridgebacks express their affection with others, but Terrell's not really sure. Further investigation is required. And would be getting done, if Primrose would stop interrupting him every five seconds with a melodramatic speech about the terrible curse on the children of Tidelord. Seriously, what's that about?

As the translator, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Terrell has a large collection of texts and other reference books. Some were penned by his own claws, and others were liberated from the satchels of travelling merchants who have the misfortune of visiting the clan. With the amount of scrolls Terrell collects on a daily basis, it soon became clear that there was no way he'd be able to keep his fragile paper things safe from the destructive habits of his denmates. Starfall, in particular, has the odd tendency to shove everything in sight into her trusty blender, and while Terrell prefers to appreciate and encourage his clanmates' antics, he also has no intention of letting his favorite pieces of parchment fall into her hands. To that end, he created the first-ever hatchery library, which is far better than the library that the adult dragons use, and comfier too. The shelves of the library are mostly filled with Terrell's reference books, but lately, BlackSlime has also been putting his binders of alchemical equations in the niches as well. This means that nobody other than those two actually use the library to read, but at least the other hatchlings have the obligation of staying quiet while they're in Terrell's library. Though considering that those other hatchling happen to use the library as an additional napping spot, that shouldn't be much of a surprise.
