Montgomery made an only half voiced sound of excitement as he dashed over, half leaping and half gliding to drape himself on Minerva. His lower half looped over one shoulder, his upper half carefully clinging to her sturdy neck, to nose at her jaw.

He didn’t miss the basket of finely prepared and seasoned insects she’d brought with her, all his favorites, and some of them very nice indeed. But his focus was on his love first and foremost. And the idea he’d cooked up.

“It’s my hatching day today, you know! Well of course you do, the food. And thank you, dear. You’re always so thoughtful! But it’s my day. And what I want is~” he paused for a moment for dramatic effect staring right into her eyes with his own bright and mischievous ones.

He nosed her gently for a moment. “What I want, is for it to be your day. You always are so soft and nice. What I want, is for you to make the day about you. Tell me what to do, I’ll do whatever you want, and you can pamper me on your hatching day, if you want. Or whenever,” he hesitated then, squirming a little from both excitement and nervousness. He knew it really was something for him no matter how she’d view it. But he just hoped she’d go along with it.

The spiral let out a keen of excitement, when moments later, she pressed her forehead to his, and pleasantly rumbled her assent.
