Where the Plaguelands meet the Arcane border the virulent living essence of the Plague becomes imbibed with Arcane energy and madness blooms. The creeping border is filled with molds and slimes that defy explanation, except for one scientist, who refuses to let their questions go unanswered.

The child of vassals during the third warring states period (1) of the Arcane/Plague borderlands, Dussuteaux was born into a large family with little regard for his interests and wishes. As the middlemost son of a second-rate vassal, there was no chance at a scholar's career until various tragedies befell the house until Dussuteaux remained the eldest remaining child. The untimely demise of his sick mother and the loss in political standing of the local Arcane Lord (2) finally gave the dragon the funds, estate, and privacy for their dreams of a personal laboratory to come to life...

Soon after founding the lab, Dussuteaux stumbled upon a rare growth of a deep-purple hued fungus. Luckily for them, it was attached to Antimony, who joined the scientist in their abode. The fungus had grown a symbiotic mycelium using the spine and brainstem, resulting in Antimony's loss of speech. Adapted Mirrorsign and runic projection render this situation a non-issue, of course.

The pair spend their days investigating species so magically potent and bubbling with plagueland virulance that they've become invariablely changed as a result (3).
