Kousa was a traveller who got lost deep in the woodlands. Scared and confused, he found an old shrine to take shelter in. While in the shrine a small light began to talk to him. It warned him that he should not be in here and that he should return home. Kousa explained that he could not find his way home and the light being pitied him. The being blessed him with the power of light. Kousa thanked the light and found his way home.

When Kousa returned home, however, none of his clan members recognized him. They were terrified of him and drove him away. Kousa didn’t understand until he saw his reflection in a pond while running into the woods. The light being had tricked him. Although it gave him the power of light, the being also cursed him. Kousa had grown long, disheveled hair and antlers. He had terrifying eyes that dripped gold and overly sharp teeth for a dragon.

Kousa, fearful, found refuge in the woods once again and has lived there ever since. It is said that he uses his light to help lost wanderers find their way to their destination.
