Bathory was originally born white as snow. From an early age, she was interested in the natural sciences and studied the works of numerous philosophers, eventually finding her love for alchemy. She would spend much of her childhood in libraries and specialty stores, looking for books and scrolls and materials of any kind. As she grew older, she would attend an academy where she would flourish under the instruction of professors of knowledge and masters of the alchemist craft, whom saw a gifted individual in her.

It was by happenstance that one of these instructors was an acquaintance of Navis, who at the time was looking for a temporary assistant for a specific project that he was on about, and offered to recommend Bathory to him for the role. Navis would eventually agree to the arrangement and took her under his employ.

Her knowledge and skill in alchemy was assuredly capable and what was intended to be temporary would become permanent as she would not only serve as his personal assistant but also as his student, as her understanding and capabilities to work alchemy was well beyond those who taught at the academy.

It was during an experiment using rubies as a primary reagent that changed her appearance. The experiment itself was a delicate one and an unseen impurity in the rubies they were using lead to an unexpected and violent reaction. It was Bathory who was handing these rubies at the time this reaction occurred. They would fuse into her body, fundamentally changing everything. Her white skin was permanently dyed red and patches of her scales were altered into crystalline segments that would grow over time.

While it may be possible to reverse what was done, the means to do so have as of yet eluded her, nor is she so sure that she wants to return to how she once was having grown accustomed to her new physical qualities.
