To be the scribe of a tyrant you must be smart but not wise. Literate but not too observant. Years ago, The Matriarch stole the smartest child in the clan to work under him as a historian. That child was Skiva. Taken from their parents and placed in a castle to work as the Clans only historian. The Matriarch had a tight chain on Skiva and their writing censoring their logs, any sign of disrespect lead to punishment. The fire of journalism in Skiva was being tamed, and dying out. Skiva was a fly on the wall in the office of The Matriarch, watching his deceit in action. They were forced to hide it. write stories that showed him as a hero and not the monster he was that drink the blood of his enemies, in a literal sense. Their first public act of defiance happened at first light. After a particularly gruesome torture, Skiva made an article of accounts of the Matriarchs secrets, and personally give them to taverns. Approximately forty were read before morning and the centennials came and burned them in the streets, anyone caught with them were forcibly exulted. This morning became known as a legend. The story of ‘the illegal paper’ but no one was around to give it any detail, for they all vanished before noon. Skiva would suffer for their crime. The Matriarch personally broke their wings. The next day they were chained to their desk, forced to continue rewriting history the way the tyrant wanted it remembered. ྿ Fatefully, Their illegal paper was read by a member of the rebellious 6 and managed to hide away from the exhaling squads. Skiva was met by messages hidden under their desk by a Magnus, who recruited them into their plan to rebel. Skiva, acted has his new informant. They would give Magnus and the other rebels crucial information to help them with their plan... but The Matriarch stayed a step ahead. Now they live on their hidden island after the events of the darkest night. And write the history books filled with the whole truth. ྿ |
