Biography
LINUS - Lapidary
Most dragons use magic to achieve perfect settings for the stones in their jewelry. Linus, however, is not most dragons. Born without a particularly strong magical influence one way or another, he learned to do nearly everything with a steady, unenchanted hand. There are few existing shortcuts for him in a world that revolves around the magical, and he has to live with that knowledge every day.
However, his work as a lapidary is the work of a skilled tradesman, and it will be very difficult for magic to take his place.
Can a spell assess the fine grain of a jewel to determine its authenticity? Do enchantments provide better opinions about which shade of ruby best complements the other gems in a bracelet? And will magic seal the stone in place for years upon years after the caster's death?
No, Linus guarantees the results of hard work with every jewel he appraises, every accessory he polishes. His steady claws work with even the finest of rings, and his eye for color far surpasses any basic spell a lesser lapidary might use to cut corners.
He may not have magic, but Linus has made himself an irreplaceable resource nonetheless. It's something to take great pride in.
