Shino spread his wings and carefully landed at the clan’s nesting grounds. His mate had asked him to meet her there once she returned from the progeny prediction. They were expecting a nest of three eggs soon, and Witchhazel kept saying that she had a good feeling about this one. Always wanting to be prepared, she had excitedly flown to the Scrying Workshop to request for the mysterious unnamed imperial to share his magic abilities and show her what her hatchlings might look like. He was obliged to help. “There isn’t much else to do when a thousand year curse has been placed on your scales,” he had sighed. “Wait here.” When he returned, he told Witchhazel the news. She frowned in deep thought, then thanked him and took off.

Upon her arrival, Shino quickly stood up. “Well?” Witchhazel unrolled a scroll that the imperial had given her. “They’re all going to look a lot like you. In this nest he said one egg has a chance of inheriting the metallic gene, and only a .9% chance.” Shino grunted. “Sorry to disappoint you, but I don’t think it’s happening.” Witchhazel grinned and patted each of her eggs gently.

“We’ll see about that.”
