Hirokai

Hirokai died, once. In another life, he was struck down as a mortal. Killed by cruel means by cruel men. He remembered dying; the pain, the slowness of it, the waiting for it to be over. His killer stood over his body, watching the skydancer slowly bleed out, slowly stain the pond a watery pink. Eventually, the murderer had walked away.

He died, forgotten and alone. He died in hatred and rage, his last thoughts were of revenge. He died in agony, swearing to forever torment his killer and those who did nothing to help him.

Hirokai died - and then he came back.

He came back as a dark, hateful being. He wasn't alive, but nor was he dead. His heart did not beat, yet he was warm to the touch. When he was attacked, he felt no pain, though fresh blood would pour over his stained feathers. Blood streaked his body both red and blue and soft shades of purple, forever stained with his gruesome end and his gruesome actions. He came in the night for his killer, for the one who ruined him and left him broken. There was no mercy. No remorse; he enjoyed the gasping, the pleading, the pain of dying.

The skydancer watched the dying dragon draw their last breath, watched the hope drain from their eyes.

Hirokai reveled in the sight of death. He was gleeful as the dragon died at his bloodied hands. He went on to torment and haunt the entire clan, driving each and every one of them insane, a brutal punishment for letting him die, in such agony, all alone. The enraged spirit watched as they burned, and he was happy to see it happen.

As time went on, he became smeared with the name of "bad omen". Every place he appeared death would follow doggedly on his heels, lurking behind his eerie grin and his blank, dead eyes.

When he had died, his hope was snatched from his hands and he was mocked for his cries. Now, when he sees death, he rips away the hope; he steals the determination and ambition and watches the dragon's soul die long before the body gives out. Perhaps once he was innocent and brave and daring, but now he is an evil creature with a bone chilling smile, parading about in a mockery version of flesh and bone.

He is best avoided. He is death's rapid pet on a slack leash.
