Biography

Raised in a family of artisans, Arrax took to the family tradition. His calling came as an engineer, fashioning metal into equipment and tools for his clan’s use. He helped everywhere he could, and then some, but eventually his craft reached its peak. At least, he thought that it had. It took some research, but eventually, he discovered that his clan was isolated, boxed in by rules and ideas with no attempts to improve. Arrax was disappointed at this realization, and so he packed his bags, wished his family well, and set off into the world to learn from it.

He studied in the Shifting Expanse for many years, as they were industrious and constantly bickering with each other, and that led to many ways of going about one thing. Arrax’s perspective widened as his eye drew closer to the specifics of machinery, the intricate machinations that brought about efficiency and productivity. Once his studies concluded in the material, he followed his passion to the more ethereal. Arcane technology utilized both magic and technology and to Arrax, that was his next step. He found a place to stay at Hoverview Vale with a family of farmers, a university only a small flight away, where inventors came together and students came to learn. It was on a night filled with thousands of dragons gazing up at the stars, that Arrax was pulled into the crowd, and happened across Syrax.

She was a meteorologist, studying the wonders only found in atmospheric patterns and weather events, getting by with only a pen, paper, and her own eyes.

That simply would not stand, and something in his mind clicked. With her help, he could create tools that she could use, and test, and with feedback, he could improve them further. With her, he took his inventions to greater heights, testing everything, discovering so much more by the act of doing rather than studying books and listening to lectures.

Wherever the weather took her, he followed. Naturally, their travels took them to the Windswept Plateau and its Twisting Crescendo. During that time, he made his greatest inventions yet, able to withstand the furious winds and calculate the speeds and its magical readings down to microseconds.

He wished her luck, waving to her and her guide as they were lifted into the sky on a balloon.

Five hours later, only the guide returned. An accident, they had said. It’s not likely she would return from the eye.

Despite their warning, Arrax chased after his partner.

Howling over the wind, he questioned all he came across, beast and dragon alike, and eventually his hours of searching led him to a cluster of fishermen who brought him to her. Her wings were torn, her spirit defeated, and they were escorted to the safety of the Millmeadows by doctors and guides.

While she healed, Arrax hunched over blueprints by her bedside. He measured, consulted, and monitored her healing process, until the day she was fully recovered and he could present them to her.

It brought the light back into her eyes and the blazing determination back into her core.

As she healed and moved through the process of recovery, Arrax continued to improve his invention. It was unlike anything he had made before, but he worked and improved his creation, for Syrax’s sake.

They went to the Southern Icefield as a test run. His invention was his greatest yet, but it still held its flaws. The gears froze over, the metal losing the battle against frigid temperatures. It was just their luck that they happened across Clan Maroke, and Arrax was introduced to Isato. A genius, albeit scatterbrained, who tore into his work with scrutiny that was both beyond harsh and enlightening. It was she who proposed a sleeker design, using Syrax’s flame core as a power source, utilizing steam rather than batteries meant to be charged.

With her help, he perfected Syrax’s wings, and now they have taken up residence in Clan Maroke. He passes his time creating inventions, bouncing ideas from other minds in the clan, and crafting technology that will help Syrax chart the Auroras and the flash chills affecting the region for centuries.
