Biography

YOU NEED WINGS TO FLYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx1
“Luna City? They call her the gateway to the universe…but don’t believe everything they tell you.”

Undoubtedly, the vibrant city is the largest and most beautiful of the gems which comprise the glimmering crown of Starflight. Even now as the starship which has carried you so far from home begins its final approach, you can’t help but to fall into the mystique of the satellite. You gaze out the porthole window at holograms floating in empty space. For a handful of gemstones they offer to sell you a dream which you're pretty sure is a lie. ‘Plug in to Satellite Delights!’ says a winking cartoon Fae who materializes before your very eyes, just beyond the window. You blink, and the hologram gives you a coy smile, as though their programmed script were waiting for you, and only you.

You have a strange feeling about the way the projection is looking at you, as if it’s searching for something written in the outlines of your scales. Quickly, you shake your head. The hologram frowns, pausing for a moment before it resets with a digitized blur. You are seated in row 78, seat 114, in the gargantuan hull of the starship, Lightweaver’s Odyssey. You turn and look around the expansive cabin. Many of the other passengers are staring at holograms of their own as Luna City appears from behind the curve of the moon, like a beacon in the dark. This place, you suddenly realize, is a lighthouse among the stars. A port city clinging to the darkest side of the satellite. Floating in the expanse, the view is like nothing you’ve ever seen and you lean over the dragon seated beside you for a better look.

There are a few awed grunts and gasps as the ship rounds the outskirts of the city, turning broadside to idle against a buttress of the famous climbing markets. You’d always wondered why they called them the climbing markets and not the flying markets, but the sight of hundreds of dragons scrabbling along makeshift scaffolding pathways explains a few things. Dragons of all shapes, sizes, and colors, scale up and down the trio of glimmering Star Scrapers. You turn in your seat to watch the ascent of a massive guardian with a large parcel tied between it's shoulders. The guardian climbs to the top of one tower, simply to leap to the next. All the while his wings remain tucked tightly against his sides.

“Why doesn’t he fly?” You ask the stoic clay plumed skydancer seated beside you. They've been impressively patient with your antics for the duration of the journey, so you figure they wont mind a few last minute questions. The skydancer closes the book he’s held inches from his nose for hours and glances out the porthole window. “You need Wings to fly,” he says rather sardonically. Sliding his wing up from behind him the skydancer gestures to a silver band with a glowing yellow core locked around the pinion. “Cyan means you’re a big shot, priority airspace, concierge service, the whole nine yards. Pink is for messengers, the Stripes get white, and for us scrubs it’ll be green if you have your wings, yellow if you don’t, and if it ever turns red your in deep --” You don’t get to hear what it means if the band turns red as the skydancer’s explanation is cut off by the intercom. ”This is your Captain speaking.” The Captain's voice booms through the heart and belly of the ship, capturing everyone's attention. “I’d like to thank you for choosing to fly with us on Radiant Airways, we do hope you’ve enjoyed the flight on the historic starship, Lightweaver’s Odyssey. I, on behalf of our crew and Starflight, would like to be the first to welcome you to Luna City. The local time is breakfast time, 6:45. Please remain seated until we are fully docked and the indicator on the seat in front of you has turned green. We will be docking into bay…”

The captain's voice fades in your mind as hundreds of passengers begin to collect their belongings, each just as eager as you to begin the newest chapter of their lives in Luna City! I’m here! You think to yourself, unable to help the excited jolt of energy that streaks through you. I made it, finally! You’ve dreamed of this, and the dreary hopelessness you’ve felt since leaving home begins to fade along with the darkness of space. You boarded a crowded starship and set off into the unknown with a deportation notice, a dream, and an extra pair of socks. And now, for the first time since leaving home, you begin to think that maybe everything is going to be okay. That maybe, just maybe, what lay beyond the cargo doors of the Lightweaver’s Odyssey, is a grand adventure just waiting for you to arrive!

Deportees like you arrive from the home world each day to an uncertain future. As you take your first steps into Luna City remember that not everything, or everyone, is as they appear. NE0-H0R1Z0N is an interactive choose-your-own-adventure tale set in the Starflight capital, Luna City, 500 years into the future. Otherwise, the story is fully compatible with Flight Rising cannon.

Readers will need to independently track two forms of currency which they will earn by making specific choices as they progress through the story. The L.C.P.D. uses ‘trust’ as their currency while the Luna City Dregs use ‘clout.’

Trust and clout can be used to unlock alliance specific pathways, characters, and hidden scenes. Readers are expected to track their trust and clout, adding and subtracting as instructed. Please do not read ahead, or turn back. The story will never punish you for choosing the ‘wrong’ pathway, as there are none!

Good luck, and welcome to Luna City!
