Ben

"Called" away from home, for lack of a better word, by the Shade when he was barely a hatchling, Ben doesn't remember his family or his past beyond what happened afterward. For some time, he was fully under its influence, wandering aimlessly as he committed indiscriminate atrocities without ever being aware of who he was or what he was doing. He was eventually released by a dragon in a brown robe, whose identity he never learned, and has spent most of his time since fighting the Shade's call to return and trying to live a life of his own.

Though he had a vague recollection that he was interested in his lineage before the Shade came, as he was now unable to remember even who his parents were, Ben found himself quite lost in terms of identity. He found solace in visions of the future, visions where he--he looked different, but he still knew it was the same dragon he'd always been--could find a family and learn how to survive even in the wake of what had happened to him. As a result, he changed his allegiance to the Water flight, and has been making a home for himself in the Sea of a Thousand Currents since then.

While not a direct parent, and with no desire to become one, Ben has taken to the idea of pulling dragons, especially hatchlings, away from the Shade so they do not fall prey to the same fate that he did. The first of these was a dragon his age named Doc, who has since become like a sister to him.

If you ask any other member of the clan that isn't Ben, they'll say he's their leader. While the other Knights, who defend the clan, have a strong say in what happens and could be considered something of a ruling council, Ben is the dragon all others ultimately defer to, whether he realizes it or not.

While not the most charismatic leader due to his inclination toward self-isolation to work on his latest project, Ben is still fairly organized and driven, and is dedicated to his cause in a way few others are. His powerful visions give the clan direction, and his ferocity in battle gives the clan protection.
