Biography

In the wake of the shattering of the Pillar and the birth of the Dragon race there were those who were determined to learn from history and avoid past mistakes by maintaining harmony between the Flights, no matter how difficult the task might seem. While unable to prevent the constant small conflicts that arise due to the often inimical natures of the Elemental Flights, these peacekeepers have managed to prevent conflicts from turning into all out wars that might jeopardize the safety of the very world. These peacekeepers are remarkable both for their devotion to their Flight and Element as well as their willingness to leave it and live as an impartial observer and occasional judge in a distant and often hostile realm. The rare individuals chosen are unequaled in loyalty and must possess numerous skills in areas as varied as military, diplomacy, magic, history and reason to name a few. While not all individuals possess all such skills in equal measure, they each have something that sets them apart. These are the individuals chosen to watch over the Nature Flight, and all that dwell within its comforting branches.

A fierce hunter form the Leviathan Trench, Waterborn is a force to be reckoned with. The pack of Wildclaws he was born into were an isolated group, living a semi-feral life, hunting and protecting their territory with little thought beyond day to day survival. If one were a romantic they might believe that Waterborn was different than the rest of them, but he was not. Acting as a hunter, he was as deadly and cunning as a shark and gave about the same amount of thought to the future. His primary concern was proving himself against ever more fearsome prey. Occasionally the currents and bubbles would bring with them a snatch of prophecy, but like the rest of his clan Waterborn ignored them, or at least he did until one spoke to him.

‘Waterborn’, it said, and that was all. To him it was everything, naming him and giving him a purpose, for it was his clan’s tradition to name oneself after a moment of great significance, and he could imagine nothing more significant than receiving a message from the Tidelord. Filled with a sense of self he had never before possessed he returned to his clan and explained to them what had happened. None doubted that the message had been for him, for the newly named Waterborn was a changed Dragon. They listened and offered what advice they could, but the full scope of the event was beyond their ability to understand due to their limited contact with the rest of the world. The warriors and elders of the clan all agreed that Waterborn was to go to the surface, for that was where the rest of the world could be found and perhaps somewhere in it an answer could be found as well.

With no other option presenting itself, Waterborn did as they suggested, telling himself that the first thing he saw when he reached the surface would be a sign of what he was supposed to do next. It took him several cycles of swimming and resting, the way his clan marked the passage of time in the lightless depths, to reach the surface and when he did it was dark. The cloudless sky was full of stars, reminding him of the little specks of bioluminescence from the creatures of the depths. To him the world was mirrored perfectly, a vast, fathomless sea below and above, but it was not the sign he was looking for. He allowed the currents to carry him for a time as he got a feel for the lightness of the air. As it grew lighter he became of the flotsam all around him, a great path of broken branches and leaves. This was his sign and by the light of his first sunrise he made the decision to follow the path of green to its source.

He followed it across the Sea, up and down rivers and waterfalls until he reached the Viridian Labyrinth, clearly the source of all green. To his delight the jungle was full of all manner of fearsome new beasts, the likes of which he had never seen, for him to test himself against. Waterborn now takes great delight in stalking the jungle depths, staking out a home territory for himself in the Gladeveins. Whenever some beast from the Shrieking wilds intrudes the locals are quick to let him know and he hunts it down, now as much to protect others as for the glory of the hunt. Since then several other Wildclaws have joined him out of admiration for his prowess and growing wisdom.
