No one is really sure where Uncle Boris came from, or how the entirety of the Demesne started calling him uncle overnight. He just sort of appeared one day, and whether from pity or amusement at his antics, they took him in. Uncle Boris is under the constant misapprehension that he is on a mountain climbing expedition. As far as anyone knows, Uncle Boris has never actually seen a real mountain outside of the Demesne, which might explain why he picked this to be his home.

One worrying aspect of Boris's climbing, however, is that despite continuous climbing of the slopes of the island, Uncle Boris is not a water dragon and cannot breath underwater. He also sinks like a rock when plopped into any sort of liquid. Some of his friends think he should have been born an earth dragon. Either way, though, everyone is worried Boris might drown during one of his climbs, so much so, that Elaine created a bubble for him that appears out of his compass necklace and allows him to breath underwater, a major feat of magic.
