B I O G R A P H Y
He would gladly pay four gold to sate his sweet tooth, but skills he had achieved throughout his life meant that he could get some of his money back and enjoy the tasty sweets. Thankfully the vendor in the market of the clan had yet to catch on to his thieving ways, though Gaius had more than once overstayed his welcome prior to his arrival there. Clan Snowhearts was not his original clan, as the wildclaw had traveled the land before finding himself in the employ of Loki. Working for the dragon wasn’t all that bad at first, until he was sent to Clan Snowhearts to serve as a spy for the other. In the past, Gaius had been an excellent spy, his stealth and thievery aiding him as he crept easily between the shadows. The leader of the clan, a fae named Eirlys, was to be his target within the clan. He was to bring back information he garnered from the fae to Loki, and reap his rewards handsomely. That was the plan, at least. For the first few months, Gaius had an easy time doing his job. He’d spend time within the clan, then under the cover of darkness he would return to Loki with his findings as he completed the tasks given to him. It wasn’t a hard job, and it was one that Gaius was good at and enjoyed. He wasn’t the type to get attached to places or dragons he met along the way, so when it came time to walk away from Clan Snowhearts, he expected it to be as easy as it had been for him to infiltrate the clan in the first place. Initially it had been, as the clan’s leader was a surprisingly welcoming fae. He entered the clan, grew aware to the dragons he decided would be the biggest threat to his plans and avoided him. He became friendly with a few as to not draw suspicion. It was easy, something Gaius was used to doing. He didn’t think it would be an issue, nor did he think he would ever have a problem breaking away when Loki had gotten what he wanted from the wildclaw’s infiltration. Then of course, he met Elia. ”Firecracker,” Gaius mused, smiling and clacking his claws against the mug of ale he was sipping. He turned to the wildclaw next to him. ”That’s what you are.” The wildclaw’s eyes flickered with her primal powers, and even then Gaius could tell she was rolling them. He grinned wider. ”Firecrackers are not made of lightning,” Elia muttered, taking a swig of her own ale. ”A terrible nickname.” another huff. Gaius laughed. ”It’s because you’re always so…” he waved a claw around to conjure up the right word. ”Explosive?” ”Surprising. Exciting,” he replied instead. Elia let out a laugh herself then. ”You are terrible with words, Gaius.” He laughed again and the two lapsed into silence for a moment, drinking their ale. Gaius continued to muse, only silently now. He did not often become contemplative, especially in the presence of others. Elia noticed, placing her mug of ale down and nudging him with her shoulder. ”Something on your mind?” she asked. He turned to her, perking up with a smile and shook his head. ”Just whether the sweets I bought earlier will last me till the vendor is back.” Elia sighed. Gaius had lived his life not ever truly regretting the way he lived nor the things he’d done. Many dragons, mostly indirectly, had been hurt or left in dangerous positions because of the wildclaw’s actions. Not a single one of those moments, no dragon conjured up in his mind with a family suffering, had ever made him uncertain of his character. Gaius would not consider himself a good dragon. He knew what he did for a living and for fun was not a necessarily good thing. And he embraced this fact about himself without remorse. That was, until he had come to Clan Snowhearts, and met Elia. Something about her - truly, about the clan as well - made him reconsider things. He never had any interest in crossing Loki, instead doing his job as he intended and getting out before suspicions arose. |
