Ever since the day he hatched, expectations have been weighing heavy on Ash. Both of their Nestmates left him. First their eldest sister left in service of the Tidelord and his other older sister left for the Viridian Labyrinth, followed by his younger sisters following in their footsteps. But not only this, he wasn't old before his father left too, to the Gladekeeper's domain where everyone they loved seemed to go. Growing up in the early days of the Clan's move to Fire with only his Plagueborn mother Reilly and aunt Minuit was difficult. His mother always told him to survive whatever it took, and they knew what they needed to do- blend in to the forges of the Ashfall Waste as the perfect resident of the Great Furnace. But the harsh traditional monotony never seemed right to them. And Ash questioned if it was truly right for anyone. He set himself on a journey to learn as much about his Flight as he could. And after long nights of reading ancient tomes and consulting with any Snapper of local clans willing to speak to him, he realized something. The Flamecaller never wanted the monotonous grey, rocky landscape shrouded in smoke and dust that made up the current landscape of her domain. She wanted glowing rivers of lava that would make Sornieth shine brighter than any star. And Ash realized, this is what they wanted too. He had sacrificed what he wanted to fit in with everyone around them, and it wasn't even the true version of what everyone else thought they wanted. And so he pledged himself to restoring the Ashfall Waste to the blinding beautiful glory it was meant to be. As they got older and the Clan of Endless Warmth got older with them, Ash rose in the ranks of the Clan as more dragons began to follow his philosophy of the Flamecaller's original wishes. Eventually even Flameheart and Flamefeather started to accept their teachings, securing his place just below them in the Clan rankings. And all because they dared to question what was taught as the norm. |
