The crisp sound of shattering filled the air, dull claws breaking through the shell of his egg with a low growl. Puling his body out into the earth, limbs and wings stretching out for the first time. Tail unfearling and swiping though the air wildly as bright blue eyes blinked open for the first time. And then shut for a long time, body going limp as if it had used up all of its energy in one great escape into life before shutting down eternally. And thats where he stayed, no air filled his lungs, no movement sparked in his body, nothing. No sign of life as his body slowly became colder and colder. As the hours past it seemed like the warmth in the surrounding air was slowly drained away. Ice crystals slowly forming on the near by foliage, blades of grass hardening over with a layer of ice to delicately crumble away with even the smallest, gentlest nudge. By the time the small corpse was found, ice had covered his whole black tinted body. The dragoness sighed, the least she could do for the small one was to give him a proper burial. Leaning down to pick the body, light of the mid day sun gently reflecting over the thin layer of ice and snow that clung and hardened over his small, still soft sclaes. And yet, the second her claw broke through the ice, hardly even brushing against the obsidian hued scales her body paused, shuttering to a sudden halt. Freezing cold over took her entirety, the kind of cold that took sucked the breath from your lungs. The kind that burned with a freezing warmth that ate through sheer scales. The dragoness screamed, green eyes brimmed with tears as her wails filled the surroundings as she struggled, fighting to pull her hand away. Wings uselessly flapping, shattering the ice crystals around her in a feeble escape. It was all to late. By the time her solid cold corpse had fallen to the floor and froze over. The corpse of a freshly hatched Ridgeback opened his eyes for the very first time. |
