Beetle

Beetle is a young dragon full of hope and aspiration. She came to stay in Pineseed's lair, hoping to learn about the magic of earth and better use her own powers. Though Beetle is a nature dragon, she has great love and respect for the Earth clan, and struggles to fit in and find her place among them.

Beetle considers herself very awkward and plain, and is grateful that she was taken in by the clan, as she is unsure she is worthy of the honor. Pineseed, however, has great affection for Beetle, though her stoic demeanor may not allow her to show it. Beetle has not made many friends yet in Pineseed's clan, but she is determined to succeed even if the odds are against her.

Not many plants are capable of growing in the sparse, rocky depths of the lair, but Beetle chose a small cave for herself where plenty of moss and mushrooms grow, happily tending to them in her spare time. Some of the other young dragons who resent her presence have given her the mocking title "Keeper of the Moss," which she has happily adopted, unaware that it is meant derogatorily. Her assistant Partridge is very devoted to her, and that's enough for Beetle.

Pineseed's young granddaughter Lukka loves to come visit Beetle's underground garden, as Lukka is frightened of the dark and enjoys the light from the phosphorescent fungi. Beetle is teaching Lukka a little bit about the plants, and so the two have formed an unlikely friendship.
