'Beware', the pendant suspended from its neck read, in a font almost too scratchy and foreign to decipher, 'for they are not of your world.'
No one was entirely sure where exactly it had come from. No dragon had seemed to notice their integration into the clan, just that all of a sudden - they were there. The younglings say that if they stare at it for too long, a strange word flitters into their vision and prods at the corners of their minds. Bhostaed. |
You aren't sure of its meaning, only that it isn't from a language you're familiar with. The clan's linguist, Magpie, spends hours repeating the word to herself in the depth of her den. Often, Starseed will appear when it hears the word, chittering inquisitively. Magpie decides that it may be their true name. Bhostaed - as it supposedly is called - moves strangely. Their body writhes and stretches, pulsates and undulates. They're fast, and nimble - even for a spiral, though every so often it seems to underestimate its own weight, or the height at which they're perched. Perhaps they're used to a different amount of atmospheric pressure - that was the theory that Calrissian proposed after a few days of observing the peculiar Spiral. It never seemed to eat or drink, and the only sounds they could utter were chirps, purrs and strange, alien-sounding calls. They're not understood in terms of language by the rest of the clan, though the tone of the calls can be easily interpreted by Rivaille. He often spends time with Starseed, and the strange spiral took a liking to the young Wildclaw, learning the ways of the clan from him. |

A bizarre sense of eeriness seems to follow them around, shadowing them like the scent of smoke after a fire. To begin with, it made the clan restless, and uneasy; the younglings would cower behind the Mothers and whimper tales between one another of a dragon with eyes that glowed like the moon, a hide that prickled with crystallisation. They would watch Bhostead with their tails between their legs, ears pinned back. Rivaille worked to convince them that the creature was friend, not foe; he had the spiral offer them gifts, little trinkets of significance - like a particularly shiny rock, or piece of wood in the rough shape of a bird. They began to trust it, with a general sense of weariness, and Starseed's place was solidified within the clan. |
