"Hey, Maka? You're always reading, don't you ever get bored of that?"
{What does he want now?}
Maka was not pleased with what Soul said, and was ready to Maka Chop him with the book.
"Oh, I know that look... Please don't tell me you're going to hit me with the book!" Soul began to plead. Maka sighed, and stopped waving the book around. She continued reading, occasionally looking up at Soul. Soul thought she'd be way more ignorant, so he decided to rephrase his question.
"What about that book makes it so worthy of slamming on my head?" he stated. Maka was quiet for a moment. She looked up at Soul, with the book face down. "It reminds me... Of my mother.." she began to cry. Soul put his arms out as Maka buried her face into Soul's chest. Soul patted her on the head, and smoothed out her hair.
"And that crazy father of yours?"
"I refuse to refer to him as my father! He cheated on my mom with multiple girls!"
Soul grinned, his razor sharp teeth showing.
"There's nothing to worry about, Maka. Why don't we head home now? I'm starving, and it's my turn to make dinner tonight."
Maka wiped a tear, and began to laugh.
"Thank you, Soul!"
The two of them began walking home. The streets, dark as always. Since the walk would be a while, Soul decided to strike up a conversation while they walked back.
"So, Maka?"
"Huh?"
"That father of yours..."
"Don't speak of of him! He's so annoying!"
Soul giggled. "Well, we'll leave that for another time. I have sometime to ask you."
"Huh..?"
"How does it feel to be a meister, wielding a weapon, that you know is actually another living being, just like you?'
"I guess I act as if you're standing by my side?"
"How would things feel if we could swap roles? Ha, do you think I'd be a great meister?"
"S-Soul! ...Well, now that I think about it.."
"Maka?"
"..."

Soul exhaled a sigh,
"Imagination sure can go a long way.."
They arrived back at home. Soul opened the the door.
"Hey guys, welcome home!" Blair jumped off the counter top, landing on her feet.
