Calomel joined the caravan as Aharon's apprentice, but quickly discovered that he wasn't cut out for alchemy. He struggled with measurements and the exact science of it all. Calomel was almost resigned to staying back at the caravan's home town in the Ashfall Waste, but Cadmia took him under her wing. It was quickly apparent that he didn't have the strength or patience for carving stone, but Cadmia wouldn't give up on him. At the time, she had recently become Odd's mate. Odd offered to help, and Calomel had hope. His mother was an herbalist, and taught him to identify plants from a young age. He took to it immediately, and now works side by side with Odd.

Calomel is a passionate but gentle dragon. He has an affinity for animals and plantlife, and loves to take care of his snakes. While helping Colias collect plant samples, Calomel was introduced to Melba for the first time. The two quickly became inseparable, and later became partners.
