Biography
"All this time wondering where I need to be is behind me.
I'm on my own, for parts unknown."-Moana
She takes after her father. A wandering spirit that quite annoys the Matriarch. She admires the pirates of the clan and often joins them on their journeys, swimming in the waters below as a defending leviathan.
~
Sonephae was born deep underwater in the depths of the dark, endless Sea. Her mother and father met to nest the eggs together, and cared for the three little children that they had as it was decided which child should inherit the great title that weighed on them all: The leader of the Grotto and its lineage of seers.
Well known throughout Sorinth by now, this task was no easy feat. Wynephae, her mother, set her and her sister to a test to see which one of them would be the next heiress. Sonephae won, and her sister decided to stay with her aunts and uncles in Clan Abyss.
Grandmother Periphae was very strict, as Sonephae would soon find out, and her mother, though gentle in her instruction, expected much from the young Sonephae. After all, she was to lead the clan one day. Not that anyone would let her forget it. She found solace in her aunt Hyephae, who also defied her mother's wishes and chose to be different.
Her father was a wanderer, a traveler, and when he came home, he regaled her and her brother with stories of his adventures. Sonephae longed to be like him, but, as her mother reminded her, a leader must lead. And one cannot do so from afar.
When Sonephae got older, she became enamored with the pirates who called her clan home, and she would often sneak out to speak with them, heedless of the Undertides who patrolled the Grotto's grand palace where the Seers resided. Sonephae had learned to sing from her mother, and she used this to her advantage, paying the Undertides in trinkets and songs so she could swim in the waters around the docks.
It was here where she got her visions, born under the bright moonlight and borne to her through the gentle, rhythmic sounds of the ocean waves. She dreamed of a sailor who would meet her song, and she knew with certainty that this Mirror would be her husband. So she sang under the moon for as long as she could each night until her lungs gave out, but for a long time, nothing came.
Then, one night, a voice joined hers. It was her mate, a Mirror named Olin, a pirate, and he captured her heart immediately. Sonephae, like her father, could have never predicted the love she felt in that moment. Fate had brought her the dragon she had long dreamed of.
There was but one barrier to their union. Though Olin came from a lineage of his own, he was born under the watchful eye of the Plaguebringer. Though nowadays, Plague dragons were freely allowed in the Grotto, at one time, they had caused Periphae great pain.
And the terrifying Rache was still out there.
Sonephae was already not the favorite child. But she hoped to convince her grandmother that fate, and fate alone, brought Olin to her shores, like a long-drifting ship that had finally found home.
