Elota

As a hatchling, Elota was clearly favored by her parents for her strong magical potential. From the outside, her life seemed ideal; however, her parents’ shifting expectations, and the implied threat of abandonment should she fail to live up to them, meant Elota often felt very lonely and insecure. Their clear favoritism also isolated her from her siblings, who remained jealous of their sister despite Elota’s best efforts to reach out. Their jealousy eventually drove them to lure Elota to an isolated area, where they attacked her and left her for dead.

Elota was found and rescued by Ember, leader of the Eleven. He taught her how to control her powers, and she grew up to be one of the Eleven’s strongest members. Elota’s ability to detect and trace Shade magic made her an ideal tracker, and she helped locate and take down several budding Shade cults. Recently, though, there has been talk of a new cult. One that doesn’t just worship the Shade, but has possibly found a way to bring it back, by merging Shade fragments with Imperials to create an Emperor. Elota was tasked with locating this new cult, along with destroying any Shade-cursed Imperials she finds.

She stumbled upon Bandit and Mojave by accident, while following a lead on a possible lab belonging to the cult. Elota immediately realized that Mojave was one of the Shade-cursed Imperials she had been tasked with destroying, but hid her intentions once she learned of their plan to find the other Imperials. However, as she spends more time with them, a new and strange feeling has started to emerge: a feeling that, maybe, she has finally found a family.

Elota met Myriad when she helped the Eleven raid a Shade cult for the first time. She had followed her senses to a concealed room, where several familiars had been imprisoned and experimented on. While most were able to be freed immediately, Myriad was too badly injured. Elota nursed the Slight Eyewing back to health, but when it came time to free her, Myriad chose to stay with her rescuer. The two have become inseperable, and Myriad is the only one Elota feels fully comfortable being herself around.

Elota can generate powerful balls of light magic, and can throw them with deadly accuracy. She shares a telepathic bond with Myriad, which is useful both in battle and when she needs to discreetly gather information. Elota is also a talented flute player, and it's not uncommon to see Myriad dancing along to whatever music the Skydancer is playing.
