- Although born without an ability to perform magic, an incident when he was younger made it appear that he was a magic user to the entirety of court. Young and not sure what to do, he perpetuated this lie, and the magic wielding nobility was pleased with the marriage between two ruling class magic wielders.

- The resentment this caused from the magicless metalworkers has caused tensions between the two already at odds sides to increase exponentially, and the kingdom is on the brink of civil war.

- Lirenn never wanted to be king. He only wants to spend time with his reptiles and take care of them. Really he has no idea what to do now. He's hoping the betrothal of his son to Jormund's daughter will solve his problems for him.

- He and Ralissa have an acceptable relationship that falls between loving and friendly companionship. Although he lacks a backbone and often caters to his wife's whims to keep the peace.
