- she wasn't even supposed to exist
- that's what it all comes down to
- but a generation or two back a katze man had a fling with a klauesson woman and so here heinrike is
- all that time later
- older than angelique, even though she doesn't look like it
- older than all of angelique's sisters
- a danger to angelique's claim on the throne
- so when they were all teenagers, angelique paid to have heinrike killed
- didn't work (obviously), but it killed heinrike's parents and killed all heinrike's sisters and brothers
- heinrike herself was just left with one eye and a deep streak of bitterness
- being blinded in one eye didn't help at all
- for a long time heinrike just roamed
- you could call it aimless, but her aim was to survive and keep thriving
- heinrike became very, very brash and bold and forward
- dangerous enough to kill an entire company of mercenaries that came for her
- cocky and funny and full of laughter even though she's run on hate and rage and pain
- her littlest brother was barely able to walk, you see
- so she's smiling and laughing but she's got absolutely no mercy in her and yeah, she knows she's becoming her enemy
- but that doesn't matter when she doesn't care about it
- for all heinrike's faults, she's always been honest with herself and so she knows she's not a good person
- not anywhere near a good person
- but one day here comes this woman with klauesson features, looking at her, and they have a stand off until the woman introduces herself
- this is anje klauesson and she wants to kill her mother
- wants to kill angelique
- this thrills heinrike, who joins up immediately
- when the coup comes, heinrike is there, and when aria immediately betrays everyone, heinrike is struck down as well, and she's left to die when anje is carted off to prison
- so she searches, and searches, and she runs herself ragged
- because anje is a good person
- heinrike sees the brokenness in her
- she wants to fix it
- because she cannot fix herself
- the only reason heinrike is in the rebellion is because anje is in the rebellion
- that's it
- everyone knows it
- they know who heinrike is really loyal towards
- but nobody will say it to her
- because she doesn't care about what any of them think of her
- they all know she'll be happy to die
- they just wish she wasn't so forward about it
