Star is the clan's protection mage who helps set up useful wards around various encampments. She tends to add extra for Purplefly as she cares deeply for the Fae and around the nesting grounds at Blanco's request. Star enjoys protecting the clan but sometimes their carelessness is exasperating.

.Protection.
The trouble with mercenaries is that they're so busy fighting for someone else, they often forget to defend themselves. It's Star's greatest frustration, living with so many elite warriors. They can snap necks and shred scales without a second thought, hiring themselves out to whoever needs the muscle and can pay the fee, and they'll defend their fellows to the death, no questions asked, but do they ever look out for themselves? Their own bodies? No, they generally don't. It just doesn't cross their minds most times, so busy are they with other matters.

They're lucky Star is as kind and patient as she is, to be frank. She can't always endorse their line of work, but she does appreciate the safety afforded by hiding amongst them, and the companionship many of them offer. It keeps her past at bay, shelters her from all that has come before, all she wishes to leave behind. But that only works so long as they remember to mind themselves rather than their work, and as a result, it's Star who defends the clan most.

She's not a tooth and claw kind of dragon; brute force isn't her style. She is, however, gifted in protection magics, and she's learned a good deal of illusory magic along the way. It saved her more than once before, the ability to glamour herself, to blend in with the world around her so long as she concentrated, so long as she kept the magic alive. A single breath released too fast could shatter the spell in those days, had exposed her more than once, left her in danger with no way out. That was then, though, and now, she's powerful. Strong in the way she wishes she had been before. She has steel in her spine at last.

And she has magic. That will always make all the difference. Not that the mercenaries often remember it. Star's greatest frustration these days, now that she doesn't have to worry about losing her life to her past, is that mercenaries are not the attentive type once they leave their job behind to curl up into a nest, no matter how well-meaning they are. She marches through the camp every morning to restore the wards, and every evening, she runs through the roll, making sure every enlisted mercenary is woven into the framework of her spells. It wouldn't do for them to be unable to see the camp, would it? In between, she helps tend to the lightly wounded, and weaves barrier charms into beaded necklaces that can be worn into battle. The nesting grounds are warded under her power, and the air of peace and friendliness is in part due to the security of her magic. Everything she does keeps the mercenaries safe and sound despite the demands of their chosen work.

At least Purplefly sympathizes. Not much of a fighter himself, he tends to the guild's familiars, herding them from place to place whenever the guild feels the need to move, and Star spends much of her time with him. They're underappreciated, the two of them, and there's something pleasant about being able to commiserate. Star always leaves extra wards for Purplefly, too; you never know when you'll need them.

Or if you're a mercenary, you burn through them and then just ask for more. She loves them dearly, but when will they learn?
