NE-81 was an embodiment of what happens when uncontrolled Arcane magic meets unparalleled scientific ambition. Stolen as an egg from an unknown pair, NE-81 was created in a secret laboratory deep beneath the Focal Point of Arcane. Her creator was a doctor that had fallen from grace, believing that he could build a superior dragon to the ones the deities had already brought into existence. Fueled by resentment and bitterness, the doctor swore to create a being that was strong enough to tear the gods down from their lofty posts.
Using a combination of genetic engineering, dark alchemy, and forbidden enchantments, the fallen doctor created NE-81, a cybernetically-enhanced dragon with limb augmentations and a sharp intellect. She had never seen the sky, never felt the wind under her wings, or felt the earth under her talons. For years all she knew was the strange, dark lab and its obsessive master. The doctor trained NE-81 in everything from logic puzzles to combat, in order to create an intelligent, deadly living weapon against the deities.
However, NE-81 was brilliant indeed, and smart enough to realize that there was more to the world that the dark, underground lab that she was raised in. Moreover, she didn’t know why she was supposed to hate the deities that had apparently caused her master so much strife. It made more sense to hate her own creator, who had subjected her to painful tests and surgeries to further “improve” and augment her physical form. She revolted, swiped some alchemical objects seeped in elemental magic, and escaped into the great wide world.
Alas, it was not to end there. Her creator had gone mad with fury at NE-81s betrayal and the loss of his precious experiment, and thus hired an assassin to take out his creation before the rest of the world could discover what he had built.
While it did not take long for the assassin Vaccinium to find the strange spiral, the deadly dragon saw much of herself in the augmented, abused experiment. Both dragons had never known their true roots, had never even seen actual sunlight until much later in life, and had never been in a family or had any semblance of true friendship.
In any case, and for whatever reason, Vaccinium decided she would rather protect the peculiar spiral (who she preferred to call Nepata, rather than NE-81) over slaying her. The two solitary dragons traveled to distant lands, carving out an existence wherever they could and gradually becoming used to each others company. Vaccinium defended Nepata furiously when they encountered others who were none-to- welcoming of the altered spiral, and Nepata guarded Vaccinium when they traveled in the light instead of her preferred darkness. Over time, they exchanged the complete stories of their lives and grew closer and closer through their shared experiences. Thus, it is none to surprising that the two dragons fell profoundly and deeply in love.
Now a happily mated pair, the strange duo can be found wandering across the Sornieth. Both are seeking answers as to where they came from, and thus can currently be found in the Clan of Selcouth Light in order to speak to the local seer and consult the clans vast library.
