Dust

No one really knows where Dust came from, perhaps not even Dust himself. His earliest memory was wandering alone through Dragonhome, following the tracks of an Imperial dragon. Eventually these tracks led him to a clan, and they gladly took him in, quickly becoming Dust’s family. Although Dust doesn’t know much about his past, he does know one thing: he was a born tracker. The tundra male can track almost anything in almost any conditions, and what makes his skill even more impressive is that he has virtually no sense of smell. Instead of scent, Dust tracks his quarry purely by sight and by visually picking up on the miniscule changes in a landscape that occur as a creature passes through it. Due to his unique talents, Dust has become the clan’s most valuable hunter, even though he maintains a strict vegetarian diet for himself.

Although some of Dust’s abilities are likely due to genetics, the intelligent male tundra has honed his skills over the years by becoming intimately familiar with the creatures that he tracks. By observing his fellow clan members, Dust learned the unique ways that a Mirror moves through a landscape rather than a Guardian or Coatl, and he can even distinguish specific dragons just from their tracks. When he gets bored, Dust likes to sneak up on unsuspecting clan members, and his companions often reciprocate by hiding their tracks as much as possible to provide a challenge for their clanmate. Although everyone in the clan admires Dust’s tracking prowess, most admire him more for his strict ethical code and genuine character. Dust has never told a lie in his life, and is always open and caring with every dragon in the clan. He also treats every animal with the utmost respect, even those that he kills as prey for the clan. He strongly believes that every living creature is valuable and innately precious, but also recognizes the role that death plays in the circle of life. Whenever he kills prey for the clan, Dust recites a kind of prayer that he came up with himself, asking that the spirit of his prey will find peace while its physical body provides nourishment to his clan. Dust believes so strongly in this ideology that he made his own name a reminder of these beliefs: “From dust we are born, and to dust we will return.”
