The daily work routine of a librarian includes binding new books, repairing them and scrolls, or remaking them completely. Sometimes during, but definitely at the end of the day, everything that was taken off the shelves by visitors of the library needs to be sorted again. The clan’s author didn’t need to teach him writing, he was taught beautiful handwriting during his training in the Sunbeam Ruins. Royyok writes down his own research and work submitted by the clan’s light researchers, especially Mayzhuaheh‘s. Her unique ability and his insatiable thirst for knowledge resulted in a collaboration between the two. The journeys as exchange professor she has to make alone though; he is too frail for that.

Royyok had always lived in the Sunbeam Ruins, he was born and grew up there, and eventually started to live on his own. Like his parents, he was of darker coloration. As dragons from light are rumored to be sophisticated, philosophical and knowledge-seeking, no one would expect them to disregard someone because of their outer appearance or elemental alignment. But he was. The consensus is half true; the light flight is all about gathering, keeping and expanding knowledge, but knowing it and living it are two very different animals. They didn’t bully him actively, but excluded him. He couldn’t seem to find friends, not even partners for school projects. When asked by the teachers and later during his occupation at the Grand Library by the professors, other agreed to work him without hesitation. Only to keep appearances though, no personal relationships were formed from that. His enthusiasm for everything light-flight-related and knowledge in general kept him company through his life. Though alone, his work wasn’t hindered and thus he became a well-respected researcher and author.

At some point he sought to expand his knowledge yet again, but couldn’t decide on a field, so he arbitrarily grabbed a few books here and there hoping to find something that would arouse his interest. Not even a book, but a few pages, roughly bound together and covered with readable, but scratchy handwriting, is what he found. It seemed old from the yellowed paper and disappearing ink, and very personal with those scribbled sketches and ancient-looking letters. The few decipherable letters indicated it to be a guide about the Ice region. The author wasn’t noted on the papers and no one in the library knew. It was the start of a journey he could have never guessed the end of.

Impulsively he made a decision. Except for his parents he had no relationships holding him there and knowledge, he knew, can be found anywhere. He packed very few things, mostly provisions and clothes to keep him warm. Knowledge about anything in the world of Sornieth could be found in the Sunbeam Ruins, but not that much about the Southern Icefields was known, not even the exact temperature or weather conditions. He wanted to be the one to bring back the knowledge to his kin. His deeply hidden longing for recognition resurfaced.

After the crossing the Frigid Floes his excitement took over. He expected everything he came across, turning over small stones and searching through piles of snow, his eyes never leaving the ground. He did rub his claws a few times, but didn’t realize it was because of the cold, until he had trouble seeing his surroundings as the sun was already going down. Suddenly it struck him,
that he had yet to find shelter from the cold and that because of his
earlier fascination of the land, he didn’t even know where he was.
The glittering playground turned into a cold trap.

He managed to make it somehow, but it debilitated him. When he reached the Snowsquall Tundra, though already wearing all the clothes he took with him, he was freezing cold and his provisions he had eaten up. He tried his best to find and catch anything eatable, but as he didn’t know the indigenous flora and fauna, the animals outran him on the slippery ice and the plants he ate were as nutritious as the landscape was lush with greens. The tales about all those dragons never returning from this cold region must have been true, he realized, and grew sad, because except for his parents no one would notice him missing, let alone miss him. Involuntarily he sat down, leaning onto a tree as strength left him and the tips of his wings and claws started to feel numb from the cold taking over. Again, he watched the last few rays of sun disappearing behind the giant mountains of ice, leaving behind an even more frigid coldness and nothing but darkness. With the last bit of magic he could gather he created a few bright lights. His powers weren’t enough to warm him, but it reminded him of his homeland and made him feel less alone as blackness overpowered him.

You shouldn’t sleep out here, traveler. The nights are pretty rough,“ a melodic voice suddenly said. He was confused, considering to be hallucinating now, but after managing to open his eyes they found what appeared to be dragon right in front of him. She was dressed according to prevailing weather conditions, the branches and snow covering her body blend in well with her surroundings. Unlike him, she didn’t seem to be freezing, hence he figured it might be some kind of snow spirit unknow to him, just like the rest of these lands, and closed his eyes again.

Warm claws touching his body and her panicking voice woke him up. „Good gracious, you’re icecold! You got lost didn’t you? Can you get up? My hideout is nearby, you can warm up there.“ Not expecting this reaction from a spirit, only now he was sure it was a dragon. Cumbersome he got up with her help, slowly walking into the direction she led him. They reached a cave with a small entrance, but a lot of space inside. Right next to the big fire in the middle of it his legs gave in. As the heat penetrated his hide, his eyes wandered around the room, watching her take off the disguise, revealing a Bogsneak of equally dark coloration. She introduced herself as Yayiehe, a forager of her clan, explaining the well-equipped hideout very far from clan’s location. While gathering plants she found him, only because she was wondering about the lights floating around. He realized that it must have been the Lightweaver‘s grace the lights were this strong despite his nearing end.

They got to know each other while eating covered in blankets. He was intrigued by the Southern Icefields and her life here, wanted to see and learn more. She decided to lead him to her clan, following paths his eyes didn’t see, keeping cold winds and the snow from them. After every day’s walk they would magically end up at another well-hidden and fully furnished cave to stay at until they finally reached her clan’s location. There, everyone was welcoming, though he was a stranger. Nobody seemed confused by his colors despite him stating his elemental alignment, they only cared about his personality. Faced with a barrage of questions and an offer to stay, the pleasure appeared mutual. Who would have thought, he would find the warmth he’d been seeking for so long in the coldest place of Sornieth?

Having been saved by the Lightweaver’s grace, Royyok now dedicates his life to research Her bright element. Without divine powers he cannot hear Her voice nor can his fragile body travel back to the Sunbeam Ruins and find an oracle to help him communicate with Her. His ever-growing powers however, as well scholars and seers traveling to his home after they heard about him from Her, assure him that he is on the right path. While the outside world celebrates him as a renowned scholar, respected for his vast knowledge and research published in plenty of scrolls and books, all he is known for within his own clan is the homebody-librarian who instead of using tools, advertises his alignment by creating his own very bright light in the shape of floating lamps. His hardworking attitude aside, with this humble side of his too, he qualified as the Guide of the Light Section.

Royyok's own work includes research about the origin of the Sundial Terrace, archaeological finds in general, as well the light and shade energies surrounding Hewn City. With the latter he had prevailed over others and become a participant of a great research project in Daylight Sanctum. In the archives of Lanternlea Port he had elaborated and then published his works. Soon after that, he had been awarded with the Hewn Philosopher’s Veil and his reputation had made him a sought-after lecturer; an occupation he pursued until he left for The Southern Icefields.

On the first day of his occupation in this clan he created his own lights in the library again. This time he wasn’t pressured to impress anyone, only to make them to look at him. He didn’t need to be careful to not get on the wrong side of someone either. Finally, he could do his job happily and focus on enjoying what he was reading, writing and researching. First of all, he took out the old book; he felt thankful as it eventually led him to this clan, he could now call family. Though undecipherable he didn’t want this piece of knowledge go to waste.
Steadily he traced the letters and scribbles thinking about places he could get the information on how to read this. The letters started to flicker and the paper began to roll itself up. It turned into a scroll busy decorating itself with the leftover pieces from the old book. What just came to life, was a radiant spirit of knowledge.

Finally, someone worthy appeared!” It looked around. „You have found me a lovely home.“ It flew off, inspecting the library, and didn’t talk much after that.

The scroll likes books and scrolls as much as Royyok, aids in keeping knowledge alive and making it accessible to everyone. Visitors to the library get offered something to read by it; though it always instinctively picks out books and scrolls no one has read in a while, one can ask for something of different content to read, but should accept the offer in general. It absolutely hates ignorant people who come by only to hang out and is seen throwing crumbled-up paper at them quite often. If someone treats these carriers of knowledge badly – be it ignorance or damage – it starts choking those ignorant fools. Royyok does not appreciate the behavior of those folks, but scaring away everyone won’t help spreading the knowledge either…
