Flickering firelight, a simmering cauldron emitting a soft pink glow….and a spiral reading in the corner. Marigold often squinted to read the chicken-scratch that her old brew notes were written in. After a couple minutes of scanning the parchment with her ruined eyes, she would finally snatch certain reagents off the shelf and toss them into the cauldron.

Suddenly, the concoction began to boil, the contents writhing as the liquid’s pink glow shifted to a golden hue. Minutes after the reaction, Marigold would pull out an article of clothing that had manifested from the reaction.

Today, it was a cloak as red as the deepest ruby, one that captured the firelight inside its crimson folds. Marigold smiled — it had come out flawlessly. That was necessary, since a thing of such extravagance was only fit for Rosa. It was about time her lover received a new cloak after all.
