You finish carefully setting up the 12 piles of Lycopodium powder. You had spent weeks in the woods at dusk, hunting down the clubmoss, and the smokey odor of the yellow dust filled your nostrils. Branching off from each pile was two bones each, 24 total. Bird bones, specifically. Raven and crows, agents of darkness. In the past, you had made the mistake of using magpie bones as well, which resulted in an explosion that burned off your whiskers. The black candles were even harder to get, and you ended up having to make them yourself. Dead mans candles. Beeswax mixed with the burned, ground bones from a graveyard. The guilt of robbing the dead burrowed inside you like a hungry larvae. 36 black candles. Thread, hand spun from spider webs, snakes inbetween the offerings in a forbidden, intricate pattern. As you lay it down it sticks to your claw tips, taking hours to weave it in and out. The round altar was looking like a strange clock, with the circular set up. You lean forward and with sharpened claw, stick the palm of your hand, sucking in a deep breath as the crimson drops fall to the center.

You wait, your heart beat as fast as a wasps wings. It doesn't take but a second, the powder lighting itself pile by pile, clockwise, then the candles each lighting in a ring counter clockwise. The burst is so bright, after a second you're forced to look away. When you look back, incorporeal hands stretch from a ring of flame, snaking towards the bones and candles and snatching them up. Acrid smoke billows all around, coming from the eerie yellow flames. The halo rises, pointing towards you like a face. The hands raise as well, the ones not holding offerings flicked towards you, and you withhold a scream.

The halo pulls back, as if it's looking you over. Your drop of blood in the middle twists and pulses and then opens like a gaping maw. You lean in, trying to decipher the weird white object in the center. It hits you as the white rolls, and soon the pupil is narrowing at you. One. Wide. Thickly lashed. Feverish red. Eye. Now was your chance. As long as you showed no fear, no emotion , as long as you didn't falter you could-

"I wish- I want you to-" You started to ask the horror, but the eye just turned up, almost in mirth. An echoing voice skitters across the room. You're unsure where its coming from.

"You waaaannntttt? You wissssshhh?"
it hisses, sounding more like several voices. It laughs, the sound bouncing and echoing all around you. Slowly it twists into a menacing, unworldy sound. Like some kind of monstrous growl. Some unknown beast. Some unseen abomination.

A scream attempts to rip from you, as you feel your fear being sucked out. The halo bobs as the solitary eye seems to laugh. You squeeze your eyes shut as you shudder, the last of your control leaving you.

Then your shaking fades, and you stand up with new strength. You stoicly open your once green eyes. Now? Long lashed. Wide. Feverishly red.
