Biography

Look at how far we've come. What good was any of it anyway?

Let's stop and stare at what's around us. We're standing knee deep in a field of golden grass. There's some flowers here and there. They're lovely white blossoms that sway in the breeze, like they're anxiously waiting for something. I turned around in a circle before sitting down. I grabbed a handful of the grass and kneaded it between my fingers. It wasn't scratchy at all, it was soft. Just like the dark green grass at home, a place I'd long since forgotten the exact location of.

It would be nice to rest here, in this place like Heaven. I didn't know where I was, but for some reason, the warm air and dark purple clouds halfway obscuring the sun didn't bother me. It was good to pay attention to the earth's beauty for once, instead of just treading on it with our eyes fixed on the sky. Sometimes the sun was too loud. The sunset shared its color with the grass and I couldn't stop staring. I wanted to memorize the colors of life. Purple, red, orange, yellow, brown. Me.

I leaned back and laid on the grass, face up. It was quiet for a long time and I closed my eyes, trying to build a connection with the land.

A light pressure shook my shoulder. I didn't respond. The shaking increased. It was you, waking me up, so I frowned. I stood up, shaking the dust off of my clothes. You had your hands behind your back. "What are you hiding?" I said.

I saw a flash of white as you brought your hands forward. It was a flower crown and I lowered my head so you could place it onto my head. You said, "You're the king". There was a distant look in your eyes and a relaxed smile on your face. What were you seeing that made you so happy? Was it me?

I raised my eyebrows slightly. "What am I the king of?" We locked gazes. "My heart," you said. I snapped back into reality.

I wish I'd taken up your offer to hang out sooner instead of trying to skip out on things like this that seemed like wastes of time. I won't let my life become a blur again. I'll take my time and enjoy.
