Always on guard, but never for the sake of yourself. He no longer wears the colors of a watchman, but he thought that it would just be that simple. He thought that he could lay down his arms and leave it all behind. But on that fateful night he whispered secret desires into the wind, thinking that they would go unheard, and some ancient being listened, some cryptic creature rumbled in response to his unspoken call, shook off the dust and the dirt. No one knows what it was that he sacrificed. But everyone knows that this pact imbued him with unspeakable power. These days he makes his home in the Zhathe. When he was searching for a territory to mark as his own, scarlet stained visions swam before his eyes, and the alluring voice of a god of war drew him irrevocably forward, into the mists. There is a place for him here. He peddles potions, brews he sees beneath his eyelids before he sleeps, sells enchanted objects, ever so slightly touched with his gift. Magic. And the same god that promised him that he would have a place here fights alongside him, claws tipped in brewed poisons and blood, lives alongside him, the warmth of something like friendship brightening each and every day, and he is thankful, that he has found this. This way of life. Because it would be easy, wouldn’t it? To wield this raw power and raze this realm, to bring it all to the ground. But he knows he is capable of better — knows that despite his occasional lack of control, he is capable of using magic to do great things. There are rumors, of course. That he contorts his voice into unrecognizable forms, that each night he dreams of the events of the next day, that he can blink from place to place or even disappear before another’s very eyes.
