B I O G R A P H Y

Xiomara was the first orphaned egg discovered by Nuka and Pemma. They took her in with great worry over whether or not she would make it to hatch. When she did they accepted her quickly without a search for her parents fearing for the worst. She was a lively hatchling with an eye for anything that glittered but, in time, grew to be increasingly more aloof. When pressed on the matter by her adopted mother she couldn't find an answer. It took some time to work out, but eventually, Nuka reached the conclusion that the young was one Charge-sick and that she must seek one out. Pemma all but forbade her child from going out on her search for fear of what she would find. She had had ample time to learn about the dangers and challenges Nuka and Brakkas had faced and did not want her daughter going through the same. Eventually, they reached the agreement that Xiomara could search but must return at least every other night.
Xiomara spent many long days listlessly hunting, foraging, digging, and scavenging in the hopes that she would meet her Charge. She saw the way her father and Brakkas were always so alive near their own charges and wished for that for herself. She spent weeks watching dragons come and go from different areas in the hopes that one of them would be The One. Her Charge was, however, not to be another dragon as she expected. Instead, during one of her digs, she uncovered a perfectly round orb. She could feel magic coming from it in waves and hesitantly lifted it to her face. She could see...something moving inside. The longer she watched the more it became clear. For her life, she could not place it, but something about it felt familiar. It felt so delicate and fragile. She knew at once that whatever lived inside needed protection. She had found her Charge.
When she returned Nuka could see the change in her at once, and she was soon swamped by her father, Brakkas, and JellyWader, who at the time was still seeking his charge. Like her, he had expected a dragon, but when he saw the creature swimming in the orb he realized that maybe he was searching in the wrong places as she had been. Pemma was relieved that the orb was not something to take her daughter away and set to work helping Xiomara construct a nest for the orb to rest in.
When The Shade attacked she was not what it expected. She was kept in easily by the fear that something would come to destroy her orb. Those not affected took it in turns to harass her with magic, constructs, or other devices to keep her on guard until she exhausted herself and they could bar her inside. Some lingering paranoia over her Charge has continued making her more reclusive than before, but the clan is working with her on ways to ease her mind and find an acceptable way for her to keep her charge with her without fear of someone damaging it.
Though she keeps mostly to herself Xiomara seems to have been befriended by Kino, much to her mother's delight. She spends most of her time in her den with her gem collection watching over her orb. She has admitted to wondering what became of her real parents but seems to shake those thoughts away rather quickly. She has never found a mate, nor had any children, but she is often put at ease with comments that she treats the orb as a hatchling.
