Biography

Tsarflex was born in the Labyrinthe, raised by criminals, and hidden from Lycus. He schemes about the Angel's downfall with sadistic glee.

Most often seen caring for the Living Quarantine's aquatic plants, Tsarflex is the most ruthless of the usually calm greenskeepers. Coating his antlers and claws with toxins, he despises Lycus and his fanatical hatred of Imperials, not caring about the Pearlcatcher's true motives behind his actions.

Tsarflex has an extreme crush on Mink, the Weeping Willow Dryad, and often trails after her with adoration sparkling in his usually empty eyes.

He despises Alaric and how he cowtows to Lycus. He finally made the older Imperial snap and is now paralyzed from the forelegs down. Veita has created a woodlike bracing system for the young drake to still function, but he isn't the same dragon anymore.

Tzarflex strutted through the Labyrinthe, full of pride and confidence. Today was a good day. Early that morning, Tzarflex had finally discovered the secret hiding place of a new gang of Mirror bandits that had been stealing from the Living Quarantine for several weeks. Each time they stole from his stores, they left no trace and seemed to disappear in the Labyrinthe like smoke whenever Tzarflex attempted to hunt them down. But not today. Last night, Tzarflex had slept next to the gigantic mat of floating aquatic vegetation he was responsible for cultivating, and awoke to a loud SPLASH! when one of the Mirrors accidentally fell into the pool beneath the plants. Before Tzarflex was fully awake, the bandit had climbed out and was making a hasty retreat, but Tzarflex knew this was it—this was the day he would finally end them.

The powerful Imperial tracked the Mirror closely, but remained undetected by his adversary. After almost an hour of sharp twists and turns through forgotten sections of the Labyrinthe, the Mirror finally stopped, checked to make sure the coast was clear, and then slipped into an almost undetectable crack in what appeared to be a solid wall of rock. Tzarflex grinned, a terrifying gleam in his eye. And then, in one swift movement, he followed the Mirror into its den.

The battle was short. There were thirteen bandits in all, but by the time Tzarflex stepped out of the crevice in the rock, all thirteen were either dead or dying. And now, fueled by adrenaline and testosterone from his victory, Tzarflex made his way back to his precious plants in the Living Quarantine, blood dripping from his horns, teeth, and claws. His whole body felt abuzz with energy and excitement, and he realized there was only one dragon he wanted to reveal his victory to…

When Tzarflex spotted Mink carefully inspecting a giant log covered in mushrooms, he felt his chest puff out just a little farther and he raised his head a little higher. Mink was not nearly as excited to see him, however, and lowered her gaze as the massive male approached her. This proved to be a poor choice, as her eyes immediately focused on Tzarflex’s blood-stained claws, and they widened in horror. Tzarflex was oblivious to her discomfort, however, and began regaling the female with the tale of his success, not bothering to hide his self-pride. The more Tzarflex stared into Mink’s eyes, however, the more humble he became. Compared to the beauty, courage, and intellect of the stunning Imperial in front of him, he began to feel as though his “battle” this morning had been nothing but a childish game. He was suddenly embarrassed that he hadn’t taken the time to wash the blood from his horns, and hated the way it had begun to dry on his face and neck. When he explained what he had done, however, Mink’s eyes lightened—the gang of Mirrors had been stealing from her stores as well, and she was glad that they had finally been prevented from doing so ever again, even if she didn’t quite agree with the method.

Tzarflex knew that Mink cared for him, in her own way, but he saw the way she looked at his twin Ridley, and he knew beyond a doubt that Mink would never look at him that way. After he finished relaying his tale, he went silent, and finally took a look at what Mink had been carrying in her claws the entire time, clutching it to her chest as if it were a precious hatchling: a single orchid. And not just any orchid. Tzarflex knew enough about terrestrial plants to recognize this one’s rarity and value, and he also knew enough about his brother to know who had given the plant to Mink. The demur female noticed Tzarflex’s gaze and began to explain why she was holding the flower, but Tzarflex was no longer listening. All he could hear was the pounding of blood in his ears as his jealous rage began to build.

His brother always knew the right thing to say to Mink, always knew exactly what she wanted and would go to any lengths to get it for her. Ridley could provide for Mink in a way Tzarflex knew he himself never could, and the thought filled him with a smoldering envy, ready to flare into flame at any time. He couldn’t stand it a second longer. He refused to stand there and look at the perfect gift his brother had given the dragon of his desires. Tzarflex turned his back on Mink abruptly and stormed away, the excited, hopeful gleam in his eyes replaced with one that threatened violence. Most of the poison he had coated onto his horns and claws had been spent on the pack of Mirrors he had decimated this morning, but Tzarflex knew one male Pearlcatcher who was always up for a fight. And so the proud Imperial stormed off in search of Lycus, ready to cleanse his body and mind with the blood of his enemy.
