Blood.

Sornieth was changing. The world breathed in and trembled, exhaling magic. Ancient beings awoke, islands appeared, and mountains reached for the stars. Families fought and were divided, and Clans broke apart as the inhabitants of the world rushed forward, blindly, in their haste not to be left behind. The Deities worried for their children, but their attention was drawn by more dire matters.

Blood.

When he opened his eyes, his mind felt hazy. He tried to recall what he had been doing or where he had been, but trying to focus was like swimming upward through thick mud. It seeped into all open spaces and felt like suffocating. The one prevalent thing he seemed able to focus on was all the blood. He could taste it in his mouth and he felt it on his body. His body... He stood, stretching. His wing segments tingled with wear and unuse. He would need to mend them. But something was missing.

Deimos.

That's right. Where was his twin? He craned his neck side to side with some effort, and felt his face relax into a sharp smile. There he was. At his side, as he always should be. Phobos snapped his great jaws at his sleeping twin's head, and the other responded with a choked roar. The two of them froze, sniffing the air, and turned in the same direction at once. The island they found themselves on pulsed of magic, they could feel it licking at their feet like hungry flames. Hunger. Yes, Phobos thought to his twin's throaty rumble. Food first.
