Mardervan

On a cloudy night when the moon was full, Mardervan's parents were sailing high above the clouds. His mother, Fealis, was a Light dragon from a reclusive clan of scholars--their Clan was invisible anywhere but among their Lair, and was sworn to only watch the actions of other Clans, but never intervene. His father, Dex, was a bold and curious inventor from Lighting, who journeyed from Clan to Clan trying to learn their technological secrets. The two met when Fealis broke the pact of invisibility to ask the young adventurer what he'd found. Soon enough they were rendezvousing outside the mother's Clan, trying to keep the affair hidden.

But when Fealis found herself heavy with eggs, she was faced with a choice: her Clan, her children, or her love. She met with Dex, and told him she wanted to live with him, but that she wasn't ready just yet. She had goodbyes to say, she had to try and convince her Clan to perhaps let her stay... but the eggs were coming. What could they do?

Dex remembered, in his travels, that he'd happened upon a Water Clan that would happily harbor the odds and ends, keeping them safe from the judgmental outside world. The two lovers rushed to the Aqurian lair, gliding above the clouds, searching for the sliver of sandbank that marked the entrance to the Water Clan's lair. Fealis landed just in time to lay her eggs under the full moon. She dropped them into the water, building up little sand piles to keep them in place, while Dex called for help. When they heard dragons inside the lair stirring, they took off, flying back homeward.

The eggs were rescued and brought inside, along with the little book that had been left beside them detailing the lives of their parents, why they were put in the temporary care of the Aqurians, and that someday, the parents would come back for them--or the hatchlings could come looking for them, at a certain set of ruins in the Light region.

Thus, Mardervan came into the world with no parents, in a Clan full of strangers, and nothing but a book to tell him who he was. Mardervan is one of four brothers.


Mardervan is on the search for his parents. Ever since he was born, he was the keeper of the book and the pursuer of history. His obsession extends beyond his own life, though; he wants to know all the intricacies of the times before dragons, when there were only a few Gods. The Arcanist in particular catches Mardervan's attention. Someday, he'd like to use extremely powerful alchemy to look into the past, and be one of the few dragons to ever have glimpsed the time before all the Gods had established their reign. His whole world centers around sight; he wants to see the past, he wants to see the truth, he wants to be seen. He wants dragons to hear his teachings about the past and to listen, since he believes he's seen so much and has so much to share.
