Many years ago Lucian was a member of a contingent of warriors that hunted dark and vicious cults. He was one of their greatest warriors, known to be just and noble of heart. However, their last battle against one of the largest and darkest cults all but decimated both warriors and cultists alike.

After the collapse of his order, Lucian set to wandering, drifting about for years until he encountered a fellow former warrior in the small village of Corona. He also met a dragon that had been naught but a hatchling in the cult at the time of the battle. The town was peaceful though, and Lucian sought refuge in the gentle warmth. He now seeks to befriend NaSaer, and convince Pan that they were doing good work.

He likes to loiter around the Constellation Cafe, sipping coffee and watching out the windows as the village life goes by. He is one of the most reliable hubs of village gossip.

It was like any other day for Lucian. It was sunny, villagers scattered about doing their own thing, he could hear the latest gossip. One however, disturbed him...the cultists were returning. Some villagers were disappearing...hatchlings are going missing. This was unsettling. Lucian retired his soldier ways, but instantly felt himself drawn to join the ranks once again to assist in finding the Lost. He and the others searching spent hours with no success. This went on for months...more hatchlings went missing, and not just from his village but others as well. Many screamed Witch. Pointing fingers at those in the arcane arts. Friends turning against each other; loyal customers turning on their trusted healers for fear of their hatchlings.

Once friends, now go in hiding for fear of prejudice and threats of death. Hatchlings were still going missing, Child-Eaters still threatening as the new cultists living in the shadowed woods. Lucian fought against the evil: capturing and killing the Child-Eaters. The uneasiness suffocates him when he enters their domain, the stench of dried blood and rotting flesh sealing their doomed fate to the fires. The numbers of corpses, the corpses of those who barely lived their lives, he’ll never forget.

Sadly, his clan was going too far with their hysteria. The executions of the innocents. It was madness, the curse of the Child-Eaters. Mass hysteria and paranoia, the village becoming almost like a ghost town. No one ventured out anymore, no more gossips. The soldiers were placed to patrol the grounds and within the village to ease their fellow villagers. Lucian was one placed within the ranks of the guards to protect his home but that would change soon enough.

He was sent to guard the border of the village, along the edge of the border with the dark woods. He wasn’t alone...he could feel their eyes, see the shadows that were darker than black scurrying along the forest floor, and in between trees. It wasn’t long before he heard the most frightening sound of his life, a low demonic growl. He quickly unsheathed his blade, ready to face the enemy. He could see dozens of eyes of the Child-Eater cult surrounding him, hear their hushed whispers but understand none of it. Fear consumed him, he was alone...and before he could scream out, the beast of the woods attacked him. The Child-Eaters have created an Emperor. An Emperor only slightly larger than himself; his quick guess was of their use of hatchlings rather than adults. He couldn’t think much about it as he ran; his path to home was cut off, so he had to run the other way.

He ran till he came upon the cliffs edge of his village’s territory. Hundreds of feet down were crashing waves and the dark sea below. He tried to turn to face the beast but the beast was too strong. Lucian quickly found himself wounded, his wings were useless now. The beast then picked him up and threw him over the edge.

Lucian remembers the cold biting sea as he plunged into the depths, hitting his back and wings against the rocks at the shallow bottom and the waves pulling him deeper, as if they were the hands of others who had drowned. He felt that this was the end. His body went numb from the cold water, he felt like he was floating, and then darkness.
Lucian woke in fright. He wasn’t in the water anymore. He wasn’t sure where he was, but suddenly he was granted a visitor. A tall, wolf-like Skydancer, who looked at him with a mild surprise. In a gruff voice, he spoke softly,
“You’re awake.” And with that, he left. Lucian looked around him, he was in a room, almost like an inn. He had a bandage on his face and he could see his belongings on the far end on a dresser. His sword was against the nightstand by his side. They must have saved him. The wolf-male returned with a dark copper looking female, and Lucian tensed immediately; a Witch! The female paused and then smiled gently,
“Be calm, dear guest. Welcome to the Hidden Lantern, my tavern. I am the Mother Witch of this clan and we have pulled you off our shores. You’re safe here.” And then she placed a small silver tray of food and water on his nightstand, before leaving him.

It has been months since he has come to the Gemini Clan. Months since he has learned of his rescuers and how a spirit led Wright to finding his unconscious form, how the clan’s Elder Delilah healed him, and how Estel constructed his wing supports since the attack left his wings crippled. Since his awakening, he has found friendship with the wolffish Skydancer, Lupine. Turned out Lupine was like him over a year ago, found unconscious within the clan’s territory only, he has no memory of his past other than war.

He has found peace within the clan. A quieter peace than he has ever felt. Lucian retired once again from being a soldier, never again wanting to return to the profession in quiet fear of facing the darkness. He did have a lot to overcome when meeting the Nightwatch and the other witches, but from his time calling the tavern home, he has become quick friends with many within the clan and it didn’t take him long to call the Gemini Clan home.
The transition to life within this water clan was not as difficult as he had thought...given his past. There was only one difficulty...he was getting nightmares. The elders, especially Lady Delilah tell him it’s PTSD. He was hardly sleeping, sometimes forced himself to eat so not to worry those around him, but he’s pretty sure they know. He never did find out about who attacked him or what happened to them after his fall, no one could give him answers and he didn’t feel like searching either; but he still felt haunted, hunted by those who wanted to finish the job. He started to grow paranoid, not leaving his room for days. Umbra would leave food and drinks outside his door, he needed to thank her some day. He started to worry that he was plagued by the same paranoia that turned his former clan against each other. And quickly went to Lady Delilah for guidance and hoped for a miracle. After telling her his problems and worries, she smiled gently to him before gathering some various teas and herbs.

“I may have a solution, but it may take him a few days to return home, but drink these teas at night, and this in the morning and I’m sure it’ll ease your mind. Dear child you are not cursed by paranoia but rather your memories and lack of sleep. Go home and rest and I assure you...you’ll feel much better within a fortnight.” Lucian gathered his remedy, but Lady Delilah didn't leave any room for him to ask what she meant about the mystery male but seeing how it was close to twilight, he went home for tea and hopefully sleep.

And like Lady Delilah said, the tea really did help calm his body and sleep took over quickly, but the nightmares were still there, strong and waking him in the middle of the night. It wasn’t until the first week past that his nightmares started to change.

There was a young Skydancer that started to appear. He’d appear in the crowd among his former clan mates or within the woods as he runs. His appearance wasn’t as worrisome but yet strange at the same time. It wasn’t until the 9th night that the young male approached him, in his dream. It was right before the Child-Eaters appear. The young male spoke softly;

“You’re haunted by your past. I have never met one so personally affected by the Child-Eaters before besides my parents or family friends.” Lucian looked at him confused,
“You know of these cultists? Are you who Lady Delilah said could assist me?” The younger smiled sadly at him,
“I am Lorien, I come from the family of Witchbornes, those who were forced into hiding in fear of prosecution. I am a Dreamwalker. I can help you but not in the way you may hope.” Lorien felt a mixture of emotions; fear, guilt, anger, confusion. He was in the presence of someone who’s lineage was a part of the paranoia that his clan suffered. Lorien sighed,
“I can prevent these nightmares from returning, but it won’t eliminate your PTSD. I hope with more restful nights, that over time your PTSD will lessen. Maybe when I return to the village, we’ll be able to talk more...maybe even become allies. And just know...you’re not alone.” Soon Lorien’s body faded into the blackness...and for once since he has joined the clan, Lucian had a peaceful sleep.

It has been months since his first meeting with Lorien and though Lucian has been resting, he still has episodes when he hears fighting or loud noises, though he’s getting slightly better at controlling himself. Unfortunately, while taking a walk through the woods between the clan’s library and the river, Lucian felt himself panic suddenly. He froze in fear. He knew nothing was wrong, he knew he wasn’t in danger and yet? Fear ate him, he wanted to crawl in a tight ball until he felt a hand on his shoulder. He jumped and quickly turned around and remembering he no longer carries a weapon.

He was greeted by a familiar face, one only seen in his dreams i the past. Lorien smiled at his friend, no words were needed as Lorien assisted Lucian to continue his walk. They walked in comfortable silence, returning to the Hidden Lantern at a calmer pace. Lucian and Lorien started to talk by the hearth of the tavern; Kolur joining their conversation mostly due to the fact he was relaxing within the hearth. Lucian found himself completely calm once again.

He would never imagined a Witchborne helping a messed up former soldier regain his own life while regaining his own. Maybe that’s why they’re became easy friends.
