Arati, who she was before, and Eira, who she is now. Fire is not so easily extinguished; an identity however, is easily lost to time and frost.

One in a group of five other explorers, Eira cannot remember who she was before. She was trapped in ice and snow for so long, that only faint flashes of memory remains, now. She remembers the warmth of a fire in her, the excitement and curiosity that led her to travel the unexplored and unknown places of her world, and the bitter cold that put her to sleep for many long years.

Despite her new element of ice, a fire still burns within her, confusing her at times as to what she was before.

Years ago, Arati and many of her close friends went on an expedition to the Southern Icefield, determined to find ancient relics to bring back, but none returned in glory. Five dragons ventured out upon the journey, but only two of those returned. The rest, including Arati herself, were said to have perished in the snow and ice, taken out by the extreme conditions and deadly foes.

Those lost were mourned, and the world carried on... but decades later, ice cracked and fell away, and a young Pearlcatcher gasped and tumbled out of her frozen shell; a second life, a new life, having to relearn her own self, having forgotten so much while sealed away in the snow and ice.
