Biography
The moon's bright tonight. Brighter than the sun is most days, although it's fairly hard to see the sun when so many stars are blocking the way.
Agate says I'm mad, she does. She says it, and Ama says it, and Medie says it and they all say I'm madder than the rest, but I'll have you know I'm not nearly as mad as an Emperor. I've seen an Emperor before... It was dawn, and the great brute was so dark against the horizon it may have well been the Shade playing twinkle tricksies on my poor eyes, but I know what I saw. A staggering mass of a conjoined corpse, flames licking the clouds every time it opened one of its mouths.
I just sat there and watched it kill, there wasn't much I could'a done in that sort of situation. It was an Emperor after all, and I'm just a kid with a broken neck and a grudge against life, I'm not gonna run off into battle like some idiot. So I curled up amongst the branches of my tree, my favourite one, and I just watched. The screams managed to make their way through the forest, but it was like a lullaby for me. That's why Agate says I'm mad, she does, because I listened to that monster kill and thought it was peaceful, but it was, it was wonderfully peaceful. I could'a laid there for a year and a day listening to that.
She doesn't want me seeing things now, she says I'm dangerous, but we're all dangerous here, we're all mad and twisted and cursed and abandoned by our gods, there's no such thing as too dangerous in our little group of misfits and that's why I won't keep the bandages down, I won't keep the wraps over my face because I don't need them and I don't want them there.
I can still see the stars through them.
