There are many tales that send shivers down the bravest dragons' spines. Many to shake and stir, to scream and howl at. Faes, Wildclaws and even Guardians dare not tread there from the warnings of the myths, and the most cowardly breed is certainly not an exception to fleeing at the sound of such a legend. A Pearlcatcher will seek the comfort of a companion's wing in a heartbeat upon hearing these, trembling like a leaf in October's wind. There is one story, however, that scares them more than any other. He wanders the world, pearl in claw, posing as a charming, angelic dragon. He makes many friends across his path, those of his own kind especially. He'll sweep you off your claws with beguiling eyes and sweet whispers as your trust is earned, keeping your eyes off of the trap he conceals. It takes only a month to set it. You're safe and loved with him, you feel. He is the one meant to be yours. You slumber next to eachother now, speaking as if you'd known eachother for years, spending time and reminding eachother you are the other's world. Then, he disappears. You find comfort in telling yourself he'll come back, because he always would for you, not even realizing your most prized possession has left with him. It doesn't strike you at first, that he would've left with your pearl, surely you've just forgotten it somewhere in your home. A week passes, searching ceaselessly. You ask your clanmates about him and your pearl, but no answer proves fruitful. Your worry only grows. You've broken down. You realize he's conned you. He's tricked you so masterfully he made you think he'd return, allowing him to escape too far to ever catch up. Without a single trail, you may never see him or your pearl again. But you don't care about him anymore, now. You're a shell of who you were, your hollow self only tearing itself further apart without your soul's embodiment. There's a new hunger in you, one only the sweet company of your pearl could sate. Dragons describe him as unsuspecting, dull-colored. The ones who loved him knew him as Pallis, though some have come to nickname him the Pearlsnatcher. |
