Iratha left home at a very early age to begin her search. The only thing she brought with her was the book of fables that she had kept from her parents’ library, one that she had read many times over. Well into her early adulthood she wandered, all across the eleven regions with no sign that she would ever feel the telltale tug on her soul that older guardians would speak of. It was only after years of wandering that she finally found herself wandering back toward the Shifting Expanse. She resisted at first, for Iratha hated the sunless sky and the barren sand, but every time her mind wandered she would find her wings angled in that direction.

The clan she found was tiny, only a dozen dragons living beneath the spires. They were shocked when the grey dragon wandered into their midst from out of the storm. The clan had never seen a guardian so far from the sea before, and they were torn when she asked to stay. She couldn’t say what exactly drew her to them, but it was a powerful need. But Iratha was so full of kindness, so gentle in her every action that they eventually agreed that she could remain. One lonely mother spiral would be shocked one morning, when she returned from scavenging for food to find the towering dragon curled up around the single tiny egg she had laid in the night. They knew then what had drawn the guardian, and in spite of her concern the mother knew better than to try and drive the larger beast away.

They waited a long time for the egg to hatch. Too long; eventually the mother made the first crack in the shell herself. The baby was too small, and so weak that he barely crawled free of the shell. Yet his enchanting electric eyes and sapphire scales melted the guardian’s heart. They were happy for a while, with the guardian often caring for the tiny young dragon. She was one of the clan, and dearly loved them all- though none so much as her charge.

No one could have saved him from the wasting sickness. From the moment of his hatching, it was in his blood. He had been destined to die early, though it was little comfort to them. The night he died heard two voices screaming their anguish to the stormy skies.

In the wake of her loss, rather than succumb to the elements or her own claws like others did, Iratha picked herself up and left. Again, she took nothing but the book of fables; and this time, a few of the young spiral’s beautiful blue scales. Grief led her home, where she made a pilgrimage to the Beacon. There, she swore an oath to the lightweaver; Iratha would become one of her holy warriors. A paladin- sworn to protecting the innocent, preserving the world’s knowledge, and to destroying that which disgraced her God; the undead. To mask her grief, she devoted herself wholly to her duty.

Iratha is a quiet dragon, but very kind. She is a calm presence, with an aura of confidence that makes other dragons turn to her for wisdom and protection. Iratha speaks little, but with great conviction. For years, her service to the Lightweaver has not wavered. She is trained to heal, and to use her divine-granted power to strike down evil. Many dragons whisper speculation on what her charge could be, and some say she may not have one. She refuses to speak of it, but will not be separated from the necklace that she wears. Other guardians can't help but look upon her with pity or disdain, as if they can feel that there is something off about her.

She became the leader of a group of paladins known as Radiant Shield, gaining title and notoriety while commanding them. Still, something always seemed to keep her from remaining in one spot for long, and eventually she left to wander the continent once more. Now, Iratha goes where she is needed; where the Lightweaver commands her to go. Her will is as iron as her devotion, and all that she can hope for is to die in service to the lightweaver. Perhaps she will be allowed to see her charge again in the next world, if only her heart remains pure in this one.
