Though born into a clan in the Viridian Labyrinth, Rain's parents were both originally from the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Perhaps this was the cause of his strange, prophetic dreams? His parents couldn't answer, and eventually the toll of his dreams was too great. Plagued by visions beyond his control that made others wary of him, Rain left his home and went in search of answers. While traveling along the Driftwood Drag, he heard of a fortune teller whose readings were said to be startlingly accurate.

Rain met with Oceania and asked her to read his fortune, to give him some direction of where he might find answers about his prophetic dreams. After reading his cards, she smiled somewhat sadly and told him answers were beyond his reach, but she did see a better life for him. She told him that his solution lay in the Sea of a Thousand Currents; she was heading that way herself, if he would like to come along.

They traveled together and were attacked near the Sandswept Delta, where they were rescued by Azura. Rain was hurt badly in the attack, and Azura took the travelers back to her lair. Rain was healed, but his eyesight was damaged beyond repair. The travelers decided to stay with the clan for a while, and before long Rain and Azura fell in love. Rain, understanding that a life with Azura was what Oceania had seen in his cards, decided to stay with the clan permanently.
