and took off in the air

Ariadne is less a dragon and more a spirit. Dazzling the clan with her crystalline wings, she established herself a following of curious hatchlings (and adults) and a reputation for being tight-lipped.
As she became more comfortable, it was clear that she had a way with young dragons; they enjoyed her kindness and her straight-faced comedy. Therefore, Varis selected her as the clan's representative in their new venture with their newest allies. When that failed, she asked to remain the keeper of the hatchlings, and her position was secured.
