Naegleria

It’s late at night. A tingling sensation settles over your body as you race through the gnarled edges of the Wandering Contagion. You don’t know where you are; and the night is suddenly so cloudy that you can barely see at all. As the temperature drops slowly and the soft noises of the indigenous nocturnal fauna surround you, you become aware of your increasingly dire predicament- if you don’t find shelter soon, you will freeze. That is, if one of the aforementioned fauna doesn’t get you first.
A stirring movement catches your eye from somewhere inside the shrouding fog and you gasp. Frozen with terror, you watch as a blood-colored forearm penetrates the mist, then a snout, then a head, then a ridged chest. A massive guardian dragon emerges from behind the wall of fine mist. Her scales are the putrid color of dried blood, and they gleam dully in the deficient light of the moon. Her wings, folded neatly at her sides, are decorated with a pristine array of white feathers. Strapped to her body like a dozen gruesome trophies are, horrifyingly enough, bones. Femurs, ribs, skulls, vertebrae- these and many more decorate her body. Even with your amateur knowledge of bones, you recognize a few- deer skulls, bag wing-bones and the like. Common prey for dragons like she. A crown of bones adorns her head, marking her as the savage queen of something too disgusting, too visceral for words. The worst part is that the bones of her head, unlike the ones that hang from her body, are not the simple bones of insignificant prey. You swallow, realizing that those scapulae at the front of her crown once protected the joints of a pair of beating wings.
Dragonbone.
This barbarian of a dragon sways a bit. She holds her head high and turns it to the side, looking at you down her long, blood-colored snout. One twinkling ruby eye finds your gaze and holds it. Then, the savage dragoness smiles, revealing a mouth full of white teeth all sharpened to fine points.
“Hello, traveler,” she says. “What are you doing here on Shroud territory?”
