Abendrot __________________________________________________________________________ "Völlig losgelöst von der Erde . . ." |
Spellbound Clan's Aerial Scout
He outstretches his wings and floats upwards - weightless. Drifting among the clouds, he observes and surveys the vast land below his feet. In his solitude he ponders if he shall ever experience the desire to touch the ground once again. | . |

Backstory
The color of the evening sky was painted with red and orange hues, as the busy day finally came to an end. This meant the end of the work day for Abendrot - a mechanic living in the Sunbeam Ruins - too. As he walked to the river to cleanse himself of the soot and dirt that had accumulated on his scales, he looked towards the sky once more, and was filled with a longing for something more. This beautiful scene before him, the sun setting and leaving behind it a trail of vibrant beauty - this was what he was named after, so it made sense for it to make him feel something, right . . . ? Still, something was missing. Was this really what he wanted? The next day, Abendrot rose early and began his work as usual. This usually consisted of repairing old machinery and piecing broken parts together, perhaps a little tinkering here and there. It was something he was good at, this was for sure, but he wouldn't necessarily say it was something he was passionate about. Still, it gave him a purpose in his clan, and made the hours pass by. He was a bit of an oddball - he didn't exactly like to be touched, and loud noises overwhelmed and frightened him. Social situations were not his strong suit, and he liked to be occupied by things that allowed him to move his hands around. At about noon, Abendrot heard footsteps approaching the entrance to his den. As he turned around, he was face-to-face with an unfamiliar dragon - a blue-hued Spiral, pushing a little c art, holding her tail in her mouth. It was an odd sight, and certainly an unexpected one - but she instantly intrigued him nonetheless. "Who are you, miss? I don't think I know you," he stated calmly, floating over towards her and bowing his head in respect. Her eyes seemed to light up in response, and she dropped her tail from her mouth. "Oh - oh! I'm Oceania, I'm a travelin' trader, just here to sell my wares! You interested in anything?" As she talked, she bounced slightly, her eyes not quite meeting those of the Fae she was speaking to. There was something about her that seemed so familiar to Abendrot, as if he understood these mannerisms. A part of him instinctively understood. She must have been at outcast at some point, too. "In all honesty . . . I'm much more interested in you. Please, come in. Tell me more about yourself - there's just something about you that feels . . . like I know you."
~
In time, Abendrot would come to understand more about Oceania. She stayed with him for a few days, taking a break from her travels to study his craft and rest up from her long journey. It became apparent that the two of them were strange in many similar ways - they hated loud noises and crowded areas, they fidgeted and moved about sporadically, and had very specific interests, that they could go on and on and on about. "Are there other dragons like us? You're the first one I've ever met... that acted like me, that understood me," Oceania said one night, as the two of them ate a dinner of insects together. Abendrot flinched. Had she really gone all her life without knowing, thinking that she was the only one in existence who felt this way? "Yes," Abendrot began. "Some dragons may try and tell you that it's a bad thing... But you should never listen to them." Oceania thought this over for a second, then smiled warmly. "Okay. I won't," she said, laying her head down to rest as she gently placed her tail over the Fae. Abendrot's chest felt funny.
~
Soon, the day came when Oceania knew she had to return home to her clan. She packed her cart back up and returned to Abendrot's den, prepared to say goodbye to him - something she desperately wished she did not have to do. However, to her surprise, she found him with a backpack strapped to his back, standing in the entrance way, waiting for her. "I can't stay here, knowing that someone like me is out there - someone who understands, and someone who I care for. I'm tired of this life, I want to go somewhere new, and be someone I want to be . . . will you please take me with you?" Oceania looked surprised at first, then nodded slowly, tears welling up in her eyes. "Oh . . . I don't ever wanna leave you again . . . Let's go home, Abendrot." And so he sneaked away from his clangrounds, leaving the life he once knew behind. He didn't know what would be waiting ahead of him - but he knew he would be heading towards it with someone he had come to know fondly. Someone who he loved. | . |
