Verity

Verity's story begins with Cloudburst.

Cloudburst was a Lightning Dragon, born and bred. As soon as she was old enough to grasp a wire, Cloudburst was working on the Lightning Farm, collecting the energy of storms that ravaged the Shifting Expanse. As time went on, people took notice of Cloudburst's genius when it came to her work, and she became respected as one of the best engineers in her Flight. From the outside, Cloudburst was the ideal Lightning Dragon.

On the inside, Cloudburst was dying.

The Lightning Flight was never a warm, loving environment. Cloudburst had never received hugs or presents from her family. She'd never had friends, a true Lightning dragon only has coworkers. Cloudburst's genius stemmed from one thing: her desperate desire to be loved. She poured her heart and soul into even the smallest of projects, never slept as she crafted magnificent new blueprints, and worked until her muscles went numb when she put up new lightning rods. But it wasn't enough. Sure, Cloudburst got the occasional "good job", and quite a few promotions, but she never felt as if anyone truly loved her.

It all culminated when the Stormcatcher himself barely acknowledged the groundbreaking work Cloudburst had done after remodeling the Tempest Spire, instead nitpicking every small detail that wasn't to his liking. Cloudburst nodded along to the Stormcatcher as he barked at her, as she bit her tongue until it bled to keep herself from sobbing. That night she fled from the Shifting Expanse, in search of anywhere that would take her in.

Cloudburst found herself on the edge of the Sea of a Thousand Currents, where she took a stage name and performed to hatchlings using her lightning magic. She'd never used this magic for anything but her work, and felt overjoyed as she brought the joy she'd never had to others. One day, as she preformed for two of her biggest fans, Zayit and Azure, Cloudburst was approached by their caretaker, Aspertia. Aspertia asked Cloudburst to join her clan, and spend her life bringing joy and happiness. Cloudburst took this offer, this golden chance to be loved, and shed who she'd once been. Cloudburst is no more, now there is only Verity.
